My daughter will be a Nuke. I honestly think that is what got her in. Reading everything, listening to the recruiter, it truly was a challenge for her. She was my child that school was easy for. There was a time when she would cry because she got a B on something. Highschool got very boring for her. There was nothing offered that really was of interest. This excited her. Gave her that spark back. Fast paced, challenging. Right up her alley.

Guess we will see how excited she still is about it soon enough. LOL. Still waiting for the form letter. I know it will get here soon. Just getting tired of everyone asking everyday. I found my ways to manage everyday, but sometimes someone asking if I heard from her just doesn't help. These are all people who I have told that I must wait for a letter. Only snail mail communication for awhile. Our little town is great and very supportive, she was in band so almost the whole town knows her, then there are the regular customers at work too. Now I have this great place. It does help knowing there are others that understand. Her dad died 11 years ago, with just her younger sister at home it can be harder at times. My oldest 2 children do make more of an effort to keep in touch now. I am very grateful to have a place here that offers so much support. It truly is a blessing.  I am so very proud of my daughter, I know she will do great.

Anna I'm sorry that the VA and your doctor aren't seeing eye to eye. Hopefully they'll work it out soon!  Are you doing some of the exercises in the interim?

My daughter has an issue with her hand. Teo different Navy docs have given her two very different diagnoses. The frustrating part is that the top hand surgeons in the country are right here and could fix her up in a jiffy. Unfortunately she tells me that getting a referral is almost impossible. Our veterans and active duty deserve the best healthcare, not leftovers.

JayDee,

Well the knee is doing ok.  Right now I'm not getting to do PT cause the VA only approved so many visits and the Doctor ordered a longer rehab period.  So I'm waiting to see if the VA is going to authorize the rest of the PT visits the Dr wants!!  I was beginning to think things weren't going as well as they should be, but then I talked to a good friend who went through two knee replacements and it turns out that much of what I'm dealing with she went through as well.  So I guess I'm better off than I thought I was!!!  I know, doesn't make sense does it?!?!?!?!

Anna, how is the knee coming along?

bkm4,

Welcome to the group!!  Happy to "hear" from you!!  Everything I was going to tell you about JayDee already covered!!!  I love my back up Moms!!!!  My daughter knew that she wanted to Go Navy when she was a junior in high school.  She did her first sign up that summer and had a ship date for just after high school graduation.  She too was so excited to go and get her adventure started.  She did her contracted time and then got out but was able to use her GI Bill to go to Penn State to get her 4 year degree!!  She knew she would not be ready for college right out of high school so it was a good decision all around for her.  I'm glad you had a good experience with the recruiter!!  It can make such a difference.  I hope you can attend PIR when the time comes, it is quite the experience!!  But like JayDee said, RTC does live stream it so hopefully you will get to see it one way or another!!!!

Don't hesitate to let us know if you have any questions or concerns you want insight on!!!  That's why we're here - to help each other out.  Or to just chat!!!!!!

bkm4, welcome!  Sounds like you've done a good job transitioning into the role of a Navy mom!  Having a good recruiter makes such a big difference in the experience.  Ours also was a straight shooter and did everything he could to make us comfortable.  My daughter also shipped long before her original ship date.  In some ways it was a blessing (it was about the same time her friends were leaving for college) but it was hard to see her go so early.

It's too bad you can't make PIR, it is an incredible ceremony.  They do live stream it so hopefully you'll be able to watch on line.  What will your daughter be doing after boot camp?

Hello. A little about me. My daughter left for boot camp on 3/28. I received her box yesterday. Her journey started when the recruiter came to my job (I work in a restaurant) and introduced himself and wanted to know if she may be interested. The school couldn't give him her info as she had graduated already, but they could tell him how to find me. LOL. She met with him, after doing some research. She decided that day to join. Her recruiter/s were great. Straight forward and talked about everything. Our questions were few, we did a lot of research. She was so excited about her decision. I hadn't seen her so happy about something in a very long time. I know she made the right decision for her. She needs a challenge, school was boring, which is why she didn't start college right away. Her recruiter is the best. She shipped early, the day after her birthday. She was originally scheduled to ship in June. I don't know if I will make it to see the graduation ceremony. Her older brother and sister will be there though. And the whole town will probably watch it. I know that some of the classes at the school will and everyone at work.
