Hi everyone. My son just got to BC late last night. I am so nervous for him. He sounded awful during his scripted call. I know all I can do is send prayers and positive energy his way, but the Mom in me just thinks why can't they "please let that young man sleep". Is there a place I can go to learn what all of the abbreviations that are used stand for? And I wanted to update my profile and can't find a settings on the main page either. I think I am just not thinking straight right now. I am really nervous for my boy.

Kinderspirit-

phoenixmom will post the info (thank you Phoenixmom).

in the meantime - stay strong. I just finished this process last week. It goes by so quickly. You are going to blink at it will be time for you to get up to PIR.  The first three weeks are the longest. The last week is the hardest. The not-knowing stinks! Your feels are valid!!

Dont be nervous he is in good hands (maybe yelled at, maybe tired) really he is!  The Navy wants these fine young men and women to succeed.  As all of your new family here does too!  We are a group that sticks together.

Ask all your questions - there’s no stupid one here!

Reach out for support - we have all had similar fears/anxieties/hi-cups/set backs and more.  There is tremendous support and knowledge here! I call these ladies our ‘Yodas’.

Writw your recruit often - they need our support!

Stay busy!  Enjoy the rollercoaster you are on.

Welcome Sea Sister!!

Thank you so much. You made me start to cry again, but a good cry this time. I can't tell you how much it means to have the support of others in the same situation. Truly...thank you.

I wrote a poem about my experience and shared it a few weeks ago- moms said I pretty much nailed it for them too.  I’m sending it to you not to make you cry but to help prepare you. I promise you will get through this.

A Sailor Recruit Mom

Being a Sailor Recruit mom is tough...

I didn’t quite think it would be this rough.

Sworn in, big dreams, I see you standing so tall...

I’m so proud, he can do this, we can get through this all.

As I wave goodbye, I begin to think he’s got this, he’ll soon be all grown up...

But how I raised him did I prepare him enough?

‘I made it mom, I’m here, you’ll get a box and a form’ is all I hear...

Wait... I love you - My sweet little dear.

They tell us to remember he is safe and no news is good news...

But in the ongoing silence all I feel is the sad momma blues.

My kid in the box arrives and what to my eyes and heart a wonder...

Smelly clothes, a cell phone but no message to ponder.

I continue to wait, it feels like my worst storm...

But then it’s here before I know it, its the graduation form!

What’s next a call or maybe a letter...

What’s this, am I starting to feel a little bit better?

I’m anxious, impatient, my stalking ensues...

My poor mailman, stay calm, remember don’t jump him like a fighting kangaroo.

It happened, thats right, just when I thought it was too late in the day...

My phone rang, it’s him, everyone shush, I need to remember everything that I must say.

After that a letter, one- two - then maybe three..

My goodness is my child on a letter writing spree!

I’ll take it, I will; whatever I can get, I hang onto ever word...

Why am I acting so absurd?

My coworkers are wondering, should they pull out the white jacket...

They just don’t quite understand all of my racquet.

OMG it’s now time, book hotel, order coin, make a ribbon and meet and greet...

I’m now overwhelmed, how can I get through these big feats.

I stop to think, then I remember, this is nothing compared with what he’s had to conquer....

PRT’s,inspections, RDC’s in the face, drill and cadence, quick chow, missing bunk mates and muster.

Marlinspike, Swim tests, Fire fighting, gas chamber and formations....

Not to mention General Orders, hair cuts, Navy rank, and game over -battlestations.

One last call- oh it came ‘I’m a sailor’ - yes you are...

Now the proud thoughts of you did it, you made it this far!

I’ve waited, teared up, stressed out, thought about you each day, and wondered how I would ever make it through....

Wait what’s this- is it so true? - Time to hold up my head PIR is here - yahoo!!!

The above is great except for one thing. There are "Sailors" and there are "Recruits", but there is no such thing as a "Sailor Recruit." SR stands for Seaman Recruit.

That is so...beautiful. Thank you for sharing.
KindredSpirit we've all been there and understand what you are feeling. I'm the blunt one here. His not getting sleep is part of the plan. So is getting "beat", inspections, pt, standing watch etc. He will make it through and join a huge brotherhood. And you will come thru a different and stronger person!

well well MR. Paul, how the heck are you? How is your Sailor doing. Thank you for sharing with Kindred Spirit. Its nice having you back on.

Paul, yep.
