I feel my daughter will be put in FIT because she didn’t prepare. But on the up side she is very competitive so I’m hoping she will excel fast .

Welcome to the roller coaster of Navy life! Nothing is ever certain, seems to change minute by minute! God bless all of our kids!!!

Mia, I know how you're feeling--the uncertainty, the lack of communication: you don't understand why it has to be this way.  We didn't know anyone in the military when our daughter joined a year ago; it was complete uncertainty.  The tearful phone calls were the worst.  Not having access to them, so hard and so different from what we're used to.  About sleep: they're young and their bodies can take a lot of punishment.  Plenty of careers demand sleep deprivation at the training stage.  No matter what happens after THU, your girl is being "trained" right now--even if it's a short course in how to tolerate adversity.  You sound like a writer!--the idea of sharing sleep could be the start of a short story!  Thinking of you...

I think I have read everything the Navy has released...plus learning from my girl. Last night when I talked to her she said boot camp was easier than THU. There are currently over 75 sailors there, living for the next 30 minutes at a time. I wish I could share my sleep with my daughter. No one should have to be more sleepless in THU than in BC. It's sad when they start filling water bottles with black coffee just trying to stay awake. The Navy is definitely not what I thought it was. But I will support my sailor.

Mia,

I am so sorry but if they are willing to put her on hold and not just release her, then that should be a good sign!!!  But I will say, I do not know that much about THU.  I did find this post on Boot Camp Moms posted December 2017:

THU-Temporary Holding Unit-where recently graduated Sailors go if they are on hold for "A" school--those Sailors with a contract for Culinary Specialist (CS) often find themselves in the THU for one to four weeks after PIR. Those in the THU are in separate quarters from those being discharged. Few graduating Sailors are in THU since the change to Friday and Saturday Departures, but some will be sent here while awaiting clearance or to conduct a special physical or while waiting to class up if there is no housing available at the "A" School or for some other reason.

Have you looked on the RTC website for any information??  If I learn anything else I will certainly let you know!!

Mia, I'm so sorry that you and your daughter are going through this!  HUGS, hang in there it will get better.

Anna, I didn't see a THU group on N4M.  Are you aware of any or anyone who might have more advice for Mia?

Comment by Mia on April 24, 2018 at 9:29am

Finished BC, forced to rate change after non existent medical issues disqualified her from previous rate. After BC. Some of the things I have been told are much worse than boot camp.

Mia, my daughter is not in THU but I understand from other moms that this can be very stressful.  Is she done with boot camp and just waiting on some final paper work?  I know of several sailors who were hung up in THU for quite some time waiting on the doctor to sign off on their paperwork.

Comment by Mia on April 24, 2018 at 12:40am

Has anyone else had a daughter waiting in THU? Is there an address? My girl is having a difficult time.

dkuulei29,

Congratulations to your daughter!!!!  Hope you enjoy every minute of PIR and visiting with your sailor!!!!!
