TweenManager first off Welcome, Usually in A school some will wait for their classes I know My Son waited a few weeks. When he began A school he didnt want any Bedding like sheets just a nice Blanket, he took his Ipad and his Cell phone. No Civilian clothing until they are permitted, then when that time came I sent him a few boxes of jeans shirts sweaters. And One thing that I loved is open communication, not like BC at all. they will have Duty, night school to catch up or if need help, day school for classes. so you can text, skype, when time permits. They are allowed to leave base with a buddy or two always never alone. they will get a schedule as to when their duty days are usually every 3rd day at least his was. was able to put in his chit (told when) to come for the Holidays. so it is really open.

Another question families with the experience.  How does A school work?  Like BC where communication is limited?  Families talk of "liberty" to go see their young adults.  Explain the recruits use and privilege of potential free time, please.

Hello families. Son will start A school right after 7/6 graduation at Great Lakes.  Letter said it will take most of the day to check through one post into the other.  So the question is, what can we bring of his from home to give him more comfort in A school?  Read some posts about bedding, toiletries, clothes.  I guess storage will be a problem?

They don't need much for their room as they cannot leave anything out.  No rugs or posters.  Some of the barracks will allow personal bedding except for inspections, other require it to be stowed in the locker when not in use.

Tina - my son says the mosquitoes are out in force now that the temps are rising in GL!  I sent him some combination sunscreen/bug lotion last week :)

When my Son went to A school after PIR he mentioned he had a small refridge in his room and micro. We took him shopping he got sleep pants, shirts, new undies, tennis shoes, a nice blanket and hygiene true enough they have little room as far as civilian clothes when he was able I sent them in a box priority mail, sent him some of his jeans shirts, and his Nikes, jordans. But he also went shopping. He had his tablet. And I bought him a Iphone 7. He is all about apple products while the rest of us are Abdroids lol.

What do sailors usually want for A school...whether for them or for their room, bed, etc.
