Deliveries cannot be made on base for security reasons.  Send a card and a giftcard. She couldn't leave the flowers and balloons out in the room anyway.  You might want to consider Bakemeawish as they make cakes which would stand up going through the mail room.

Having lived in the barracks, I know the room doors lock automatically, you never leave your room without your key.  The locker/wardrobe can be locked.  We had to buy our own locks, but they might have them issued now.  They are fair sized lockers, but not huge. Personal bedding must be put away each morning.  They can put in a chit to have their electronics out on their desk.

I'm not sure about having balloons sent and all, I'm going to say No but I'm sure someone who knows more will chime in and let it be known. never did that. Anti M and Bandmom and maybe Allison or Barefootie may know that answer. I only know what I was told by my son since he did 6 months there. But Good luck to your Daughter and to every one's Loved one in GL, My son Loved It, he really enjoyed his time there and met alot of great Friends.

TxMom I beleive it is a key that is given so they can lock their dooors, at least my Son mentioned they can lock their room doors and a key to lock their stuff so it is given to them. To be able to keep there belongings they have to put in a request to be able to have their belongings on desk they each have a bed and a desk underneath with a very tiny closet. because he had bought a tv and gaming system on base and was allowed to have it out by permission though.

So many questions and this one may sound silly, sorry
My daughter's PIR is 7/13 and then stays for A school, her birthday is within a few days of us returning home so my question is would it be allowed to have some flowers delivered to her? This will be the first birthday apart so I'm not sure how well we will handle it, I'm sure she will be okay but I would like to send her flowers, balloons or something, is that allowed?

My daughter will be going to A school in Great Lakes, do you know if the lock they need is a combination lock or what type of lock they would need to lock up the lap top? She has a soft blanket that she loves so we will take that to PIR to give to her along with her lap top and phone. Thanks for all the information this really helps us prepare.

Are A school candidates to refrain from smoking and drinking and general stupidity?

All of you are so nice for sharing this info.  I am a teary mess after reading a recent PIR blog from a mom.  Some days this is all so so overwhelming because my son was an immature turd before BC.  I know things have changed for the better for him.  Just hope I can still be part of his list of people he loves.  Have written 30 letters!  And a few to give to recruits who are needing encouragement in his Division 275.  We are down to the last few weeks. Thanks for preparing me for A school.

Hello Tweenmanager,  A School communication is not limited.  The sailors are allowed to have their cell phones.  What I would do if I needed to talk to my sailor is send him a text  Call Me   When he had time he would call and we could talk.  If he is in class or on duty he obviously cannot talk.  Liberty is granted in phases.  Your sailor will not be allowed to leave base by himself, but he can fill out a "Chit" then a family member can sign him out.  At first he will not be able to go for over nights, and he will always have a distance limit, but we did go to Great Lakes for a weekend, and took him to a Christmas Concert etc.  We also lived close enough that our daughter could sign him out and he could come home for a weekend once in a while.  Air travel is not allowed.

After graduation, it did take him about 4 hours to be able to leave.  We brought very little from home for him.  Some civies, and a soft warm blanket.  He was not allowed to have anything out in his room.  We watied to see if he could have his lap top.  That he could have as long as it was locked up during the day.

This will give more info as to the phases they have.
