For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed. Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.
**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.
**UPDATE 7/29/2021** You now must be fully vaccinated in order to attend PIR:
In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Oleander, didn't your daughter stay in GL for A School? Brenda's daughter thought she might get to come home after BC (she's staying in GL also). What do you remember?

Writing helped me too! I'd grab my morning coffee, sit down and write to her, it felt like we were spending time together every day. It really made a difference for me but I think more so to her, they LOVE getting mail from home! Number your envelopes so she can read them in sequence.

MalsMom is right, the PIR groups are essential for staying in touch and knowing what is going on!
Writing letters kept me occupied too. I would write every day, several times a day. It was almost like having a conversation with her, without the smarty pants response from her :).

Navymom18 - It was so hard at first! It helped me to write letters. It also helped to follow what they were doing every week. Join her PIR group when it is available. Hang in there!

I think I heard from my daughter more during her first deployment than during boot camp. Those phones with the delay are hard to get used to though.

Definitely a roller coaster! Just make sure to always have a phone on you, because you never know when they will call. Even more important when they are deployed. They can occasionally Skype or whatever:).

This is true, it get's easier, I remember the first letter her dad and I could barely make out the words due to our eyes tearing up. Our daughter has been gone since May 16th, it does get easier, just hang in there. Our daughter had gone off to college for a short time and I think the biggest difference is not being able to talk to her. We were okay with college since we could talk with her but now it is so different with the lack of communication but we just focus on this is good for her and we will see her soon. Also that in A school we will be able to talk to her more often. We still check the mail daily hoping for a letter and we get one we are excited and sad. All and all the days get easier. Even typing this I still tear up but then smile thinking of the positive next step in life she is taking. We can't wait till July 13 to see her at PIR.

i am with you Navymom18! it hurts it makes you feel a sense of loss/grief almost! hang in there! we're here for you and praying for you! it aint easy. what i did was work out more often, i spent countless hours going through flights and pricing and picking out my graduation outfit! it helped me get through

Navymom18 I know that feeling. In fact, I think all of us here do. It will lessen as you get stronger. What's your daughter going to do after boot camp? A school will be better, you just have to make it through boot camp and you will!
