Let's chat about our wonderful sons and daughters who have chosen the PACT program.

Hello

It has been a long time since I have posted and I am sorry. I hope everyone has been able to connect with others in the PACT program. My son is now 3 and a half years in and it has been a great experience. He thought he wanted to be an AM. When he got on the ship, he was put with the AO’s. Now he is an AD3. It was best for him to start PACT because we didn’t know much about the Navy and he wasn’t sure what he wanted to do. This has been a good route for him.

Hikergirl- every story is different. My son graduated boot camp  January of 2015. He went to Florida for 6 weeks (APACT) -  He arrived at his first duty station several weeks before his ship was set to deploy.

Hikergirl-- Not sure of the rule of thumb about SPACT but our son was sent to San Diego after A School to a LPD ( Landing Platform Deck) where he is still at.  I am assuming it is all based on the needs of the Navy as to where your son will go.  Its possible that if his ship he's been assigned to is out at sea he will be flown to it. Or, if the ship is on its'  way back to port, they will put him on base in THU ( Temporary Holding Unit). Let me reiterate , this is what I have picked up from reading posts from other Moms/Wives/families.

Hope this helps!

I have a question for you PACT Mom’s. Will my son who will be S-PACT be stateside for his duty or shipped off? I was thinking he would be sent out in a boat but I read where Simeon said their son was stateside in San Diego for a while.

Hello all.. just checking in. I'm not usually active in this group but I do read the comments.  Our second sailor is SPACT and on the USS Anchorage. They are currently "river city" .  He's been in San Diego since Feb. 2017. He is still waiting to strike for a rate ( he wants a Seabee rate) and working his tail off with the deck crew.  If your SR's or sailors are in the PACT program, just keep encouraging them to work hard, learn everything they can and one day they will find their rate that fits them.  We tell our sailors that someone is always watching and that will lead them to (hopefully) a better job.  Good Luck to all!

Hey guys! My son is S-PACT with a current PIR of 8-17. I’m excited to see him and excited to get to spend three days with him. It’s also super nice to be in a group with Moms that can relate and their kids have the same jobs!

My daughter left for Basic training June 5th, she is PACT as well.  I would love to chat with other parents going through this experience.

Thank you Michael K. I did some research and i spoke with my son, Although he was bummed at first, he now sees this as he can check out different jobs and then chose from the openings available in the fleet when he's ready to strike for a rate. took a possitive spin and it may be a blessing in disguise....the rate that he wanted is turning out to be what he would consider boring.....(his older sister is in that job) so from what shes telling him, it looks like it was a good move.

can anyone explain to me what our kids do in the PACT program?
