While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed. Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.
**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.
**UPDATE 7/29/2021** You now must be fully vaccinated in order to attend PIR:
In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Please note! Changes to this guide happened in October 2017. Tickets are now issued for all guests, and all guests must have a ticket to enter base. A separate parking pass is no longer needed to drive on to base for parking.

Sarge's Taxi or rent a car
Is it better to rent a car for PIR weekend or use Sarge's taxi service? I am on the fence. Not sure what is better to safe money. We are flying in Midway. Plus need to get back and forth from PIR and take SR back to when liberty is over. And then airport to see him off again.

We rented a car but we don't mind traffic and there were going to be 4 of us with our SR. We wanted the flexibility to go where we wanted, when we wanted. We also drove to O'Hare to see our SR off in the middle of the night, stayed 8 hours and then drove back to the hotel to get some sleep. A Taxi to do all of that would have been more than renting the car for the weekend! (Airport to hotel, Hotel to PIR, PIR to Hotel, Hotel to lunch/dinner, Back to Base, To Airport to see sailor off, then depending on when you and your sailor have your flights you may go back to GL or over to Midway) Add in any sightseeing you choose to do and decide for yourself.

I would definitely rent. You can take a taxi from the airport so you won't have to mess with all that traffic, then rent when you get near the base. We used the taxi service but I think we spent at least $300 going to and fro! I think we would've done a lot more if we had a rental. Next time I go up there I think that's what I'm going to do.

I used Sarge, also flew into Midway, for me it was worth it, the convenience of not having to worry about traffic, which can be brutal if you are not familiar to the area. They are allowed on base better than others, because they know the rules, Jack was awesome and very helpful. the expense was just fine since you are given perks not known to rental drivers, and remember there are some that are not even allowed to be on base at certain times. My driver even gave my son a discount card for him to use after I was gone. They take care of our Sailors and they know the places that they are not allowed to go, due to problems.

We rented a car, used hotel shuttle for PIR and Uber for going out to dinner. Tried taxi service but had very negative experience on two separate occasions (including being stranded).

Natalie R we rented a car, we got in on Wed. and we were able to get around ourselves, PIR day we took shuttle to and from PIR because my son in law couldnt go so he stayed at Hotel and watched on big screen. at around 2:30 we headed to the vising Center by Museum and picked up My Sailor and went out to dinner and then some. I thought that was the way to go. and very convienent.

Can our sailor ride the shuttle from PIR to our hotel ? Our Hotel is Comfort Suites Grayslake , ill.
Or do we need Sarges taxi from PIR to hotel ? -

If your hotel has a shuttle, then yes, your Sailor is able to ride that. If the hotel does not, then he can ride in whichever shuttle you arrange, whether it be through Sarge or one of the other services.

I'm planning to do neither. I use Lyft a lot and they are available at O'Hare so I'll take a Lyft from the airport to the hotel and then my hotel has a shuttle to and from graduation. We're staying near the base when my SR has liberty and then I'll take a lyft back to the airport. I'm not comfortable driving in a new place and lyft is available everywhere (except on the naval base of course)

Momof7 just know they are not permitted on base, so you will be able to drop of your Sailor in the Parking lot make sure he has enough time because it it a 20 min walk to and from. Have a Great time!
