She will be there for Thanksgiving, her birthday, Christmas and New Years.  Will this delay her graduation date?  Very sad to think that she will not be with family for those holidays.

I am so sorry She will miss all of those Holidays. My Daughter turned 19 yesterday at Bootcamp. I assume that they would have those days off. Not sure though. I will tell you this though. When She gets on the plane headed for O'Hare She needs to sleep! No joke! She has got to be rested. She will be up for a good 40 hours with no sleep! Standing in place. So important to be rested. Tell her Good Luck!

Thanks for the advice!  I will tell her to get that rest in!  Happy belated birthday to your daughter!  My daughter will also turn 19 on her birthday.

Hi Jessicas Mom, I'm sorry to say but it is business as usual. although they will have a Nice dinner for them for thanksgiving. I believe those with PIR jan. 4th can get adopted out for christmas. I have to find the info for you.

I am interested in the information for Christmas too.  My son is recovering from knee surgery in ship 04 and will be there for Thanksgiving, his birthday, Christmas and new years.  What does it mean to be adopted out?  Thank you

Leah, unfortunately he most likely will not be eligible for either of the Adopt-A-Sailor programs. He would need to be in the 11/30/2018 TG or the 12/07/2018 TG to be eligible for the Thanksgiving Adopt-A-Sailor program or in the 01/04/2019 TG to be eligible for the Christmas Adopt-A-Sailor program this year. If he were to be eligible for either of them, then he will send you information about it that would have to be filled out and returned.

The RTC does have nice meals for Thanksgiving and Christmas for those who are not eligible for the Adopt-A-Sailor porgram.

Excuse me for asking but what is PIR?  That would be awesome if she can get adopted for Christmas!

Jessica's Mama,

A lot will depend on her PIR date. Plan for the possibility of 10 weeks. DO NOT send her anything special for the holidays or her birthday!! They are best off when they can keep their heads down and not call the RDC's attention to them. If she hasn't left yet I'd be planning to celebrate early!!  Your next chance will be once she has completed A school. (I know the recruiters often say they can come home after BC but they can't!)

Thank you so much!  I was thinking of an early celebration for everything!

Thank you! Enjoy every minute you have until She leaves. Have you watched any of the "Making a Sailor" on YouTube? If not, watch them. You get to see exactly where they are going and, What it's like right when they get off the Bus. I watched the first 3 episodes with her before She left.

I was in boot camp for all the holidays, although back when the Navy had one in Orlando.  The days are "holiday routine" which means something like a Sunday.  No training, although possibly some PT.  A nice meal, time to write letters or study, maybe polish their boots (relaxing, honest).  Even if not religious, I strongly encourage going to a church service.  I did, just to listen to the music and sit somewhere without being yelled at for an hour or so.

It does not delay training.

You can send a low key tasteful card, no glitter or music/voice chip.

Honestly, although it may not feel like it to you, but your recruit now has a Navy family.  They will not be with you, but they will most assuredly not be alone.  It is very much a bonding experience, sharing the suck of being away from home.  They'll need it, because the holidays suck more on deployment.

We spent a couple days in Seattle as a family. Stayed in the same Hotel She did the night before She left. It was great!
