Which "awful call" would you be  referring to? Sorry but there can be lots in BC...hugs!

Welcome to Navymoms!

Start writing letters now - you can number them and mail once you get their address. The box comes first and then the letter a bit afterwards with their address and PIR (graduation date).

No news is good news-  if you don't hear from them, that means all is going well. It's hard not hearing from them especially if they were living at home before enlisting or if you were accustomed to daily contact but you WILL survive and so will they.

Be cheerful in your letters - share happy news, share funny jokes, share sports news. Don't focus on missing them, focus on how proud of you are and how you are looking forward to seeing them at PIR.

It'll be okay!

Welcome CMC314, Yes the scripted 15 second if that call (I'm Here) it is horrible because you can hear them yelling in the Background. Hold on Tight Ma'am, these few weeks can be the most worrisome/Emotional Roller Coaster of a Ride. You should receive the box in a few days and it will need to be signed for, delivery by Fed Ex. So Depending on what time he arrived his first day would of been last night or today. so Either Friday or Monday will be his 5th business day of arrival and he will be tested on the PFA. See Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) and Fitness Improvement Training (FIT). If all goes well and he scores satisfactory then the form letter will be sent out, it usually is 9-14 business days. this will have his PIR (graduation Date) and mailing address. He will be shut from the world and working extremely hard, so this means no communication until the 3rd or 4th week. It can be very Emotional, but know for them as well. Please come join Boot camp Moms and meet all the Ladies. You will never be alone on that site. There is much info to read and learn and if I or anyone can help guide you please let anyone know.

CMC314-- You are in the right place!  That first phone call is rough but you raised a strong child which means you are stronger than you know!  Read all the info in the Files here.  Keep letters and future phone calls upbeat!  Come here to rant, cry or worry.  We haven't lost a mom to bootcamp yet, we won't start with you!

Sorry to hear that! Try to stay positive, I sent positive sayings and quotes and my son told me that it helped! I wrote a letter everyday sometimes I would write 2- positive things write about what I was doing I just rambled. It was hard until I knew he was gerromy letters. You will get through this- so will your recruit!!

The first few weeks  were the hardest our daughter cries the first phone call she got she had never been away from home. But when it was over she was so proud of herself and said it was so bad it was being away from home and not being able to talk to anyone was the hardest. She is now in A school and loving the Navy. Just give them positive words no matter how much you want to cry with them . The time will fly by.

I remember that call...but this forum had me prepared so during his "script" I interrupted him and was talking over him and made him laugh.  It is tough. Agreed Mom...but you have to buck up and be solid for him. It gets better as time goes on.  Two years in, I have adjusted to...Can't tell you where I am, but when I get back have a great story for you. This is a book...that all of us in our own unique way, have the same story. Question for you is...are you reading it or writing it.  Hard to do, but I am learning how to read it which takes letting go a bit rather than what we are used to doing...writing their story. Hope this helps. contact me any time !

I got the call today and thankfully this site prepared me too! I’m going through so many ups and downs. I miss my son and in a way sad that I guess his childhood is truly over. It’s hard to explain to others. I know my son will be better than he was before and I am excited for him. I guess I start the count down to graduation now but I really don’t know the date yet. Once we get it the count down will be on!!!!

If you count nine Fridays starting with this Friday, or Friday he arrived then you should get PIR date. But know that it could be the week before or week after. It depends if and when he arrived if he filled up that Div. if so the week before, if he has to wait for his div. to fill then week after. These two sites will give you more of a clear picture.

Our daughter arrived at boot camp yesterday. Finally got the call last night at 9 PM after she had spent a total of 31 hours in 2 different airports. Thankful to have found this group.

Welcome to Navy Moms, please check out Boot Camp for Moms. much info for you to learn. Congrats to your Daughter she is a New Seaman Recruit. SR.

My son arrived April 2nd as well. I was prepared for “the call” thankfully. It’s been a tough couple of days. Just a general lost feeling honestly!! Hopefully being a part of this group will help sort through the emotions! I’m so proud that he’s chosen this path but at the same time, so sad!!
