She can wear silver ball earrings, 6mm in size.  Lip balm to heal chapped lips is good, as is any healing hand cream and moisturizing face treatment.  The wind chaps skin badly.

My nephew is headed to a sub and has NO room for stuff. He's getting a monthly donation to the USO in his name.

I just came from a discussion about obligatory gift giving rather than giving as an expression of thoughtfulness and spontaneous joy, so you will have to pardon my very strange frame of mind.  I have friends who can't pay their bills, and a friend driving our second car because she can't afford to fix her own, so struggling to think of stocking stuffers for someone who has all they need is painful this morning.

Tiff's mom- you mean "cuddle duds"- you can find them in a department store and they come in black, white or off white. They are warm.

What about some simple stud earrings if she is allowed to wear them. Lip gloss for when she goes out. Microwave popcorn and little Christmas candy treats. Mascara- if she is at phase 2 and can wear makeup that is always an easy "girl" thing. Boys are a lot more difficult I think. What about warm fuzzy socks she can wear to bed?

Tiff's Mom, can you adopt me too?  You know, not a sailor...but a sailors mom.  LOL  What a generous box of gifts!!!

Angie or Anti M....  I need stocking stuffer ideas... and present ideas...

She will be in GL for at least a year... her Adopt A Sailor family from Thanksgiving sent her a box for Christmas, it included some Cuddle Bugs???  Long John thingies, but they are girlie and she is scared she can't wear them under her uniform... they sent some Isotoner gloves that look really warm... some chocolates from Chicago (I wished they sent some of that Garret Popcorn LOL) and some other goodies.....

She is getting 500.00 cash (as well as her bro and sis) to buy whatever they want (they usually buy a phone) but what else can I buy her that she can use/need in GL???  Some hand warmer thingies, can they have those (some kind of little bag things that hunters use)  Can I buy her a umbrella, socks, etc..  I'm at a loss LOL

Jane, I've done snow watch before.  Fortunately, I didn't have to do a whole lot of it, the guys were sooo much better.

I have lost friends to alcohol in the Navy.  Friends, plural.  Always sad and stupid.  Seen more than one busted too, or be sent to the fleet without their rating.  I was pretty wild, so I understand it.  He'll do what he'll do, but tell him this ex-ET1 says "don't be stupid."

Priscilla, he must not be involved in his underage pals' drinking.  He can lose his school that way if anything happens and he is the legal adult.  If he does cross a line, please don't post it here.  This is a very public site, and yes, the SDCs and others have been known to read our posts.  Not hard to figure out who is who.

Yeah. I just want to be on the safe side, so a definite answer would be great. Hubby says that because he's on leave he's allowed to drink and drive a car, but I find that too odd. Also, I don't even want him doing that while he's just getting outta bootcamp.

I know how my husband's friends are here (his friends aren't even 21) & I seriously don't want to deal with him drinking, esp with them because of how stupid he gets. They automatically make me a designated driver because I'm pregnant.

I personally am not not one for drinking, ESP when it's to get drunk and you're not of age. Maybe I'm too much of a rule follower.

Sorry for my rant, lol. I'm just a mad, pregnant lady when it comes down to this subject.

Priscilla, that is a good question. I know for sure that sailors can't drink until they are phase 2. I will ask my son.

Anti M. My son told me that they showed all the Sailors at GL a gruesome video of young people dieing in a horrific car accident. They were trying to send the message home of not drinking and driving. The only thing was, was that the kids in the car had not been drinking.

LOL--Jane, they wanted new experiences, didn't they?  My FL born and raised son has been going sledding and is planning a snow boarding trip--he's never seen so much snow!  He couldn't wait to get back home for leave--into the warmer FL weather!
