cathi- am new to this group my hubby still in boot camp and he's graduating on 1/28/11 and will be staying at GL for A school for 4 weeks now my question is are the phase still the same for him if he's going to be there only for a month

At GL - A school:

Phase 1: They have to shadow all the watches, then they are allowed liberty off base in uniform with a group - but have a nightly curfew.

Phase 2: They have to then do a certain amount of watches and pass an oral board to be able to wear civilian clothes and go off base - weekends they can be gone overnight. - with a liberty buddy

They have a 300 mile radius that they can go when they are on liberty.

Beware that if they get "field day" - which is NOT a good thing things change and they can lose liberty.

My daughter has been at GLA since September and is leaving tomorrow for her first duty station. We had a lot of sailors at our home off and on during those 3 1/2 months.

Does any one know (or know where to find) the phase up schedule for GL A school with regards to liberty, civilian clothes, etc?

Been a really rough two days. I thought it was hard when he left for bootcamp but at least then i had aan idea of when I would see him again. Now who knows?  His little sister is devastated again and I am n ot much better.  Does this ever get easier?  He was so upset at the airport; said he has never felt so alone and yet surrounded by people at the same time.  I told him thanks for the best present ever.  the gift of him for at least one more Christmas. Who knows where he will be next year.  Just a sad sad day!

My son Josh found out about his C school when they got their verbal orders the end of A school.

My son said school is back in session tomorrow. He graduates A in 2 weeks. I asked when he will get his C school destination and he said "who knows." He is resigned to being there on hold till spring. He didn't put down a destination for C but I'm hoping it's VA since that's not far from us.

Any where but Chicago he said!

Abbe's Mom, it was a fantastic feeling!!  It's easier when they call and text that's for sure.  That boot camp 2ish months were the absolute worst!!  : )

Aliott1200......Wow, isn't it a great feeling when others show their thankfulness and pride of our sailors.  I took Abbe to the Charlotte airport yesterday at 6:00 am and she was back on base by 11:00.  This morning has been a little teary but she has been calling and texting since she got back to GL, so hopefully A school will be a little less stressful than boot camp.

Does anyone have a sailor starting Quartermaster A School?

Good morning everyone!  Well, yesterday was a sad day.  Most of our sailors had to go back to GL. Remember how I said I was just going to drop my son at the airport and leave?  Well, my son was getting his stuff out of my trunk and an airport security officer came up to us, thanked my son for his service and asked if I wanted to park in the employee lot and stay with my son at the gate.  Can you believe it?  I didn't even ask!  It was such a wonderful surprise and honor.  Once again, fulled with such pride and such emotion.  Probably would have been better for my son if I didn't come in.  All I did was tear up every 5 seconds.

So, I hope everyone else is feeling OK.  I know we are all going to miss our boys and girls.

My sons plane actually got in early. He was waiting for his room mate to come in as they were getting a ride home from a buddy who has a car off base. It hasn't sunk in yet he's gone as he spent so much time out of the house. Glad all the sailors are getting back to base in good time.
