Anyone else here have a daughter/son leaving for boot camp 3/28/11.  Would like to keep in touch and compare notes with those who may be in the same situation during the 8-10 weeks they will be there!  Thank You!

Hi BFair.  My daughter will have a birthday in April while she is still in boot camp....happy birthday to them! LOL My daughter went with 2 guys and 1 girl and they were also very nice.  They were 21 where my daughter is 24 so she was feeling like the old person!  I was told by someone on here that we can contact their recruiter about 48 hours after they got to BC so I'm heading over there tomorrow to see if I can get the information....I'm hoping.  I have already started writing.

How old is your son?  I'm sure he does miss his dad.

Yes, they did have plenty of medicals before they left then tons more when they get there.  I'll post her ship and division # when I get it too.

Well hang in there and I'm hoping that these next 8 weeks fly by as fast as the 8 weeks leading up to boot camp did!

Angela

Hi gomarville.  Hope you are doing ok today.  It is still so weird w/o my daughter here.  She has been away plenty of times before, however, she was always just a phone call or skype call away!  This is so weird to have absolutely no contact.  I can't wait to get her ship/division # so that I can send out my letters to her.  Maybe they'll be together.  It will be fun to see who are in the same groups.  I am heading over to the recruiter's office tomorrow to see if they have the information....someone told me to give it at least 48 hours....so I'll try!

Keep in touch.

Hi Bfair, My son left the same day. It is hard to try and be normal when nothing is normal. But, I just keep trudging along and get on here when I can. I feel better being in here. Not so alone . Just come on here when you can and talk. It does help..

Hang in there..

Kelly in Katy

Hi Julie, Kelly in Katy, gomarville, Angela and BFair:  My son left 03/28 and I have all of the same feelings that all of you have.  I also figured that our kids would be graduating 05/20; it is very disheartening to hear that we may have to wait another week.  I've already started counting down the days til the 20th (btw, it is 49 days from today)!!!  As soon as I find out their PIR date I will put another countdown clock on my page so I can watch the days dwindle away!

You are very lucky Kelly in Katy to have gotten your ship/division from your recruiter already.  I had to call my son's recruiter today about something and he told me it was too soon to have it; he'll probably have it next Wednesday!!!!!  Can you imagine?  That's the difference between recruiters who think about the parents and recruiters who don't.  We had a surprise going away party for my son on 03-19 and I had his friends write letters to him with some memories that they shared.  I have about 20-25 letters!  As soon as I get an address I'm going to start flooding the RTC with those letters!  I'm so glad that I sent him a couple of pictures of us (I put them in a Sailor's Bible).  At least he'll have that to remember us by...

It is so wonderful that so many of us had kids leave at the same time.  Hopefully at least some of them will be in the same ship/division.  Then we get to meet at PIR!  How exciting will that be!  I'm already so proud; I can't imagine being any prouder but I'm sure once I see him in that uniform that my smile will get a little bigger!!!

Hope all of you ladies are having a good day!  Stay strong!!!

Hi Proud na v mom, I know I was very lucky. Our recruit was very nice and caring. He has always told me if I ever needed anything just call him. I told him, Expect some phone calls.. But, he was really nice about it..He told me  about a site I should go on. It was "www.bootcamp.navy.mil". I dont know if it would help anyone but it's worth a try.

I hope evreyone gets their address and dates.. I know how it feels not knowing..

Have a great day and hang in there..

Kelly

gomarville....looks like your PIR is most likely 5/27...do you want to form the PIR group?? Fun and easy.
You are right about that Julie.  We never DO stop being moms.  Luckily I wrote the comments earlier BEFORE I came home and found the "kid in the box" on my doorstep.  Boy that was gut-wrenching!  I did some major boo-hooing but I figured it was about time I finally let it out.  I made up for the rest of the week when I didn't cry ;-)  The box was interesting as much for what wasn't in it as what was in it.  Got the clothes, shoes, cell phone, and papers but what I didn't get was the cell phone charger (probably still stuck in the wall somewhere in the New Orleans airport or at O'Hare!) and the small duffel bag that he brought his Bible and stuff in.  Everything else came back except that (and of course his toiletries).  Ca't wait for my form letter and then the 3 week phone call.  That call is going to be the best phone call ever!  Hope you're doing good.  I know we're gonna get through this!!!!
Hi, I hated that box...I don't even want to cry anymore,,my eyes are so swollen.  What helps me is I write daily jounal and will mail out every couple of days...that gets me through these rough time not being able to speak with my daughter
I agree with you Julie, I've written my guy a letter everyday and that gets me through the day sometimes. I even left him a voicemail on his cell phone for when it gets home.
Our daughter left 3/30/11 for Great Lakes BC. She is 24 and we saw her swear in and got that short but sweet call that she had made it and her "box of personal effects" was on its way home.  Our blue candles are being lit every day!  She will go on to A school for Sonar technologist.  Keep in touch!

Hello ladies, my nephew left for boot camp on 3/29. I know how excited you are and all the thoughts  that you are having. I have been a navy mom for 3 years, time does fly by. I can still hear my sons voice when I got that first call. When I joined this site I think there were only about 200 or so moms and it has really grown. Being on this site I felt so close to my son while he was in bootcamp and made some friends here. You can find a lot of helpful things on here. Best of luck to your sailors and all the waiting will be worth it when you see your sailor for the first time walk in at graduation! That was one of the proudest moments of my life!

Hi Julie, Grad day is a moving target.. It all depends on how well they, from what I hear..My sons bd is 5/3...he'll be 19 yrs old.

I hope you get your info soon. I know the waiting is hard..

Hang in there and

TRY to have a good evening..

Kelly
