OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Sorry to hear about all the illness, not totally surprised, son is in TG 43, some are down with teeth, colds, and the RTC virus that some say "lives" there.  My 2 nephews,  now active duty,  swear "it's alive"  Baahaahaahaa, and all that.

@ Navydad 206 and dinnap  thanks for the info about no care pkgs. I thought that was the policy but he asked me again for a good toothbrush and toothpaste. He obviously does not like his issued ones. Do you know, does he have access to the NEX to purchase these things? Thanks.... Also a big thank you to PrdNavyMom2Sailors for referring me to callsforrecruits.org.....I got the card #'s tonight! Thank you and thanks to everyone that posts on this site to help keep us informed!

This momma got another 30 min call :) My SR is doing good. He finally got over the crud after being sent to medical and being put on 3 medications. He says its going around pretty bad in his Div. If it does not clear from all by week 5 they will be getting another peanut butter shot he says :/

I got a call from my son (ship 12/division 331) around 730 tonight! He started out telling me he only had 10 min because they got 20 min taken away from them and about 3 min into the call I could hear people yelling in the background and he said he had to go. Said it would be the last phone call for awhile because things were about to get intense. Hope others received calls tonight! If anyone has any other info be sure to pass it on. Thanks all
