~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Great post, landlockedmom!

JLM:  I think you are correct...they want the SRs to know this is all about teamwork...the team is only as good as its members.  So the pressure is put on all of the SRs.  What usually results is that the SRs will help each other to accomplish their goals, which helps the entire "team" (i.e., division!).  My son told me that when he was there, they even had study groups they formed before tests.  Must have paid off since their division got the Hall of Fame honor, the highest honor for a division!  It is amazing how the RDCs can get these SRs on the same page.....but it involves a "breakdown" period followed by a "buildup" period.  You will see the results at PIR!  Phenomenal!

And remember, all....no news is good news!  If you aren't hearing anything, your SR is hanging in there!

It was soo good to hear that "hi mom" on the phone today! Even though he got all four wisdom teeth pulled on Monday he sounded so much more upbeat and rested. Oh, I miss him - but am so proud if the strong determined man he is becoming! This mama's heart is so happy and will sleep well tonight know everything is fine with my SR.

Go a phone call from my SR!! It was so great to hear his voice; however, he sounded the same on the phone as he did in his letter. Very worried about him throwing in the towel!! I said everything I could to try to keep him going and stay positive, but I'm afraid the only one who can make the ultimate decision is him. I can only pray he turns it around and makes the correct one. I realize crying doesn't help.......but it seems to be all I can do lately. If your SR's father is supportive to you while going through these difficult times, consider yourselves very blessed!!

Our SR called on Weds night at 19:00 CDT. We were not home. He was sad to miss us, but still up beat.  He said the RDCs had promised a 30 minute call but some guys still think boot camp=summer camp so the time was reduced to 7 minutes.  I wonder if the RDCs set this up to get the DIV to start pressuring the few who are slowing everyone else....maybe. (shrug) Those RDCs have seen a lot of recruits!  Today a letter arrived and it was great.  He thanked us for pushing him to be in shape before he left....he passed the physical test with flying colors.  Ran the mile in under 12 minutes; 60 push ups, 60 sit ups in 2 minutes each.  He was happy. He has passed the other tests too. He was a varsity swimmer so that test was too easy, he said, and in Boy Scouts they had done the survival bit about inflating overalls to use as a floatation device.  He is looking forward to Marlinspike this week (#3).  He did say that sometimes he wonders what he is doing there, but then he remembers that boot camp is not the Navy and he can handle whatever is asked of him.I did cry when I read that letter but I am so proud.

He didn't mention anything about the phone calls......so maybe!!!  <G>

Ellen, thank his my son has not gotten sick. He has no spleen anymore so I have to remind him he can get sick easy and to stay away from the other SR's illness..

Not unusual to hear those words at this point. They are homesick, may have the Ricky Crud, are doing the same thing over and over again. They are told when to eat, sleep, shower, shave, talk, wake up, what clothes to wear and how to wear them etc. Their lives are not their own anymore.

I promise you it will get better!

Valerie, I tried too the encourage thing, but mama bear came out and said just come home.. I know that was wrong, but to hear your child like that makes me sick... However, he did just call me and sounded good. Said he taking it day by day. Passed all his tests so far and ranked up already.. I miss him dearly...

@Sharla, my son says that it does suck over there and he is counting down he days til graduation. My son doesn't want to be there either, but as his mom I have to be strong for him and encourage him. I remind him that this bootcamp is just like the offseason training for his football or his basketball team when he was in HS. just keep motivating your son, he'll make it through
