Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.

**UPDATE 7/29/2021** You now must be fully vaccinated in order to attend PIR:

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

In the event of an emergency within the sailor’s family, where you feel the sailor must be notified and considered for Emergency Leave, you must notify the American Red Cross through the national headquarters in Washington, DC (1-877-272-7337) or via their website www.redcross.org.

Comment by Mommamac MM(CVN77) on December 1, 2016 at 7:59pm: We were so lucky to spend another Thanksgiving in Norfolk, seeing our son and his friends. We cooked a wonderful dinner for about 35 of his friends and loved hearing about all the experiences they have gone through the past year.

If they won't be providing meals, then they shouldn't deduct BAS. Typically when a ship goes into dry dock, they connect to a barge where the Sailors live (or spend the night when they have duty) and that is also where the galley is so meals are still provided. Depending on the maintenence the ship needs there may be a different set up for your husband's ship, but ultimately if the ship is providing meals in some manner regardless of if the individual takes advantage of that, they deduct BAS. If the ship is not providing any meals for whatever reason then they should not deduct BAS.

Comment by Brooke on October 23, 2016 at 5:09pm: When the ship is in dry dock he won't be living or eating on the ship at any point, all his meals will be provided at home. Will they still deduct this money?

Comment by abuon18 on October 23, 2016 at 5:07pm: Brooke, BAS is to pay for the meals provided for him by the ship regardless of if the ship is in dry dock, wet dock or at sea. Unless the Navy is not providing him food (ie when he is on leave) they will deduct the BAS.

Comment by Brooke on October 23, 2016 at 4:14pm: Quick question, my husband is currently working on a ship that will be going into dry dock towards the beginning of next year. As of right now he gets his BAS deducted, once the ship goes into dry dock will they stop deducting that from his pay?
We rent an apartment so he doesn't live on the ship.
