Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of January (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have January ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in January, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

IansMom, we are all with you. It will be exciting for your son and  scary for you. Information will help calm your nerves. Please read all the information above. Review the posts earlier.

It will be an overwhelming experience to watch him march in his graduation "Pass In Review!" (PIR). Tears and joy for us all.

I have a Blue Electric single Candle for my son. It glows 24/7. Kinda a Navy tradition. It illuminates our son's Navy BC graduation picture. It brings our attention to him everyday.

My son leaves in January 2017, and I am so glad that I was led to N4M! I have gotten so much information that I hope will help make the transition a little easier. I know this is what he wants, and I am happy for him...but he is my youngest and his leaving is not going to be easy on this momma!

Good Day everyone!

As parents, we train our children to become adults. As parents, we need training to help deal with the time they do become adults and go off into the world. No matter how old they are it still hurts to have them leave us. There are many videos about Boot Camp so you can see what our Sailor Recruits will be doing. The biggest thing for me was the reality of: "This is what They wanted to do!" Look at them making decisions for their lives!

They will ship a box with all her things in it to you. Phones etc. These are items you can also return to her when you attend her graduation, Pass In Review (PIR). Very exciting time for everyone. When you find out when her PIR will be, plan on visiting the PIR with family. Most of the time you can have four guests. When there are too many Divisions graduating they will lower it to 3 guests can attend. The PIR is an amazing event to watch. Lots of pride and tears for both parents.

This information can be found on the official Recruit Training Command website. Facebook had the site as well.

So as lemonelephant  mentioned below, Deep breaths and take one minute at a time. It never changes. My son has been in for four years and we still do that. Does it get easier? It gets different. Based on the job your Sailor will have.

When your Sailor gets a her job, there are many groups of parents for that specialty.

Our Blue Candle is on for All Our Sailors, Families and Friends!

My daughters date just got moved up from April 11th 2017 to January 9 2017. She is so excited. I too am very excited for her although I am sure I will be an emotional wreck the day she leaves. I'm stealing every moment I can with her between now and then! It's been just her and I for so long it's going to be so different without her here.

Yes, just breathe and take it one minute at a time if you need to and enjoy the time you have together.

Thank you lemonelephant. I am
Starting to feel extremely nervous; can't sleep, nauseous- the information on this site has allowed me to feel less stressed about making sure my son has everything he needs prior to leaving; now I just need to hold it together

Be sure to check out the discussion, Things to Do in the Last Month before Your Future Sailor Leaves for..., and to start discussing some of the things there with your future Sailor such as how to handle bad news and who will be put on the Access List....

If you have not yet joined Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones), now is a good time to do so and to begin checking out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) starting with OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes to Your Profile) (some of you have changes that you need to make--at least change 3; make change 4 if your profile pic includes your future Sailor) and then go on to Arrival and What Happens at the RTC.
