I have lots of questions about A School.  My son just left boot camp and now he is in Pensacola.  He has to wait for a month for his A-School to begin.  What will he be doing during the time he waits for school to start.  What are the 3 phase up stages.  What can I do to help him not get  depressed because he won't be doing what he wanted to do - Training for Aviation Rescue Swimmer.

Could someone tell me what happens after A school. I know she goes goes right from bc to school,  does she go right to her job after that, or does she come home? Does she come home at all out of her 5 years?

Good morning,
I am so glad that this forum has helped so many of you out. I have recently returned from a 7 month deployment, so I apologize for the long delay in responses. If you continue to have questions, I'm sure you will, please feel free to ask. :)

Hi Everybody,

My godson is in Pensacola for A school training for A-PACT enlisted.  He graduated from Basic July 29th and was sent to Pensacola the next day.  His orders say that he would be there for 22 days and then be stationed on the USS Ronald Regan.  He was been there past the 22 days and has still not had his A-school training.  They seem to have forgotten about him (in our inexperienced minds).  He has inquired at the school about his training, but nobody has been able to answer him.  He doesn't want to make waves (no pun intended), so he doesn't want to push things and just lays low.  I think that he should be asking every day until somebody answers him (and be respectful and do the jobs they have given him to do, etc).  Does somebody else know where he might get answers to when he will receive training.  Help me and his parents to understand so that we don't push him and inadvertantly get him in trouble!  Thank you!!  Go Navy!

This is a new & great N4M group for PIR info: http://www.navyformoms.com/group/pirreferenceinformation
Southwest my favorite. For boot camp grad I flew from Phoenix to Midway and rented a car, as we were staying at the Drake in Chicago. Too much driving, even though the hotel was fantastic :)
For Corps School graduation at GL in Feb '07 (cold!), I flew Southwest to Midway, took the Orange Line downtown to Washington & Wells ($2), walked 4 blocks to Ogilvie train station pulling my carry-on (cab would be under $10 with tip), took the train north to GL (ticket each way $5.50, military in uniform $2.75, map and schedule http://tinyurl.com/25gyfho), rented a car from Hertz in GL and stayed at the Navy Lodge - rather run-down, local hotels are nicer :)

Agapemommajill, We still had plenty of time, after PIR, to get the shuttle back to the hotel.  Also, yes, our sailor road the shuttle back to the hotel with us.  PIR is at 9:00a.m. and my sailors' went until about 10:25a.m.  The last shuttle left the base to go back to the hotel at 12:30p.m.  He had plenty of time to go get his seabag (he was coming home for Christmas) and still be able to get the shuttle.  I can't help you with the 3 days, because our sailor was able to take leave due to holiday stand down.

Thanks! everyone is saying to fly Southwest & into Milwaukee, so we will definitely do that.  Also, like the shuttle idea, but I'm wondering about afterwards, do you take shuttle back and does our son ride with us?  Do all the graduates get 3 days off to spend with family?  And, what time is PIR? Is it the same for everyone or do we have to wait and see for that?
