N4M's Community Guidelines

OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

The Weather Widget is interactive. Click the green dot on the top bar and drag it along the to change the time. Click LIVE to go back to current time. Click on the days to change to that day or expand out to six days.

Just an update on Bugs Navy career. He is currently an AT3. He is on the West Coast and has been all across America since BC. He is assigned to our nations Fleet of ships. Can't say which one OPSPEC you know. Since he has joined I have seen more of the world than I had in all my life. It has been great. He is doing well has been in now for 2 yrs and 7 months. Everyone have a great 4th of July and stay safe.

Went to see Zach in Italy last month. It was the first time I'd seen him (in person) since Jan. 2013!! Thank God for FaceTime! My daughter and I flew to Italy and all 3 of us traveled the country. It was an amazing trip, some great family time, and sooo good to give him a hug! He'd grown an inch and a half since we last saw him!! He's loving life in the Navy. He's traveled a bunch; hence, why he hasn't been home. I hope all is well with everyone. Happy Holidays!

"The Sailor's Christmas"

Twas the night before Christmas, the ship was out steaming, Sailors stood watch while others were dreaming.

They lived in a crowd with racks tight and small, In a 80-man berthing, cramped one and all.

I had come down the stack with presents to give, And to see inside just who might perhaps live.

I looked all about, a strange sight did I see, No tinsel, no presents, not even a tree.

No stockings were hung, shined boots close at hand, On the bulkhead hung pictures of a far distant land.

They had medals and badges and awards of all kind, And a sober thought came into my mind.

For this place was different, so dark and so dreary, I had found the house of a Sailor, once I saw clearly.

A Sailor lay sleeping, silent and alone, Curled up in a rack and dreaming of home.

The face was so gentle, the room squared away, This was the United States Sailor today.

This was the hero I saw on TV,

Defending our country so we could be free.

I realized the families that I would visit this night, Owed their lives to these Sailors lay willing to fight.

Soon round the world, the children would play, And grownups would celebrate on Christmas Day.

They all enjoyed freedom each day of the year, Because of the Sailor, like the one lying here.

I couldn't help wonder how many lay alone, On a cold Christmas Eve on a sea, far from home.

The very thought brought a tear to my eye, I dropped to my knees and started to cry.

The Sailor awakened and I heard a calm voice, "Santa, don't cry, this life is my choice."

"Defending the seas all days of the year, So others may live and be free with no fear."

I thought for a moment, what a difficult road, To live a life guided by honor and code.

After all it's Christmas Eve and the ship's underway!

But freedom isn't free and it's sailors who pay.

The Sailor says to our country "be free and sleep tight, No harm will come, not on my watch and not on this night.

The Sailor rolled over and drifted to sleep, I couldn't control it, I continued to weep.

I kept watch for hours, so silent, so still, I watched as the Sailor shivered from the night's cold chill.

I didn't want to leave on that cold dark night, This guardian of honor so willing to fight.

The Sailor rolled over and with a voice strong and sure, Commanded, "Carry on Santa, It's Christmas, and All is Secure!"

I am looking for anyone going to Nuke A school graduation on April 26th.  I am unable to be at the graduation but would love to have a picture or video of it.  Let me know and I will PM my sons name.  Thanks Ingrid

My husband and I are headed back to Great Lakes to visit our son who is in ATT school until April 15.  Then starts A school and that goes until the end of August, then goes on hold for anywhere from 10 - 16 months before C school.  He is doing great - is carrying a 94 in his classes but is ready for warmer weather. He is practicing fly fishing, eating well and has gained back some of the 15 pounds he lost in Boot Camp. He has earned his phases so that he can come stay the weekend with us in Chicago while we are up there. We will be his liberty buddy for the weekend!  Can't wait to see him again - he was home for the week after PIR so it will have been 3 months - but at least we talk and text all the time so not as bad as Boot Camp - that was torture but I fully understand all of it.

My son received his orders to be a Pharmacy Tech. He is greatly disappointed as he wanted to be FMF, but I am secretly relieved, to be honest. Anyone else a Pharmacy Tech? My son will possibly get leave for the spring break from classes, if he is approved. I hope so! I really miss him.

I received Zach's Keel Boom yesterday. They did a great job with it! Definitely worth the money.
Comment by Kimberley on February 25, 2013 at 10:05pm

No Keel Book here either, just the DVD.  Was worried there was a problem with ours getting lost in the mail, but apparently they are coming separate.  I will post as soon as I get it!
