My boy left yesterday and I'm definitely a mess over here. The last call really hit me hard, so I'll be anxiously waiting for my first letter from him. Anyone else with loved ones at RTC this December?

pilots17 - my son left for RTC (from Texas) today.  There was a good amount of time between swearing in and when his plane left so we've been to communicate throughout the day.  But it's going to be tough when we get that last call tonight and know that'll be it for a while.

Hang in there - we can do this!  My husband keeps reminding me that our beloved son is following his dream!

My daughter left 12/03 (from Texas too!). Yes, that call was horrible, it is very short.  Keep telling yourself he is following his dreams, it is so true! I know you are proud! We are anxiously awaiting a call or letter.  I know this time is very deliberate for their training and in the long run it is short but the feeling like she is just at camp has now passed and I am missing her dearly!!

Hang in there! Hugs to you from another Texas Momma!

I was luckily able to talk to him a few times between when he swore in and when he arrived at RTC as well. He left me a voicemail which I've listened to a billion times since that last call but you're right! We can do this!!

My son leaves 12/17. It will be a different Christmas

sue1214 - yes it will be a different Christmas this year.  We did celebrate Christmas with my son this weekend.  My son's recruiter did tell us Monday that he'll qualify for the "Adopt A Soldier" program so that eases my mind a bit.   I'm usually baking around this time of year but can't seem to get motivated now.

The only PIR date that is eligible for the Christmas Adopt-A-Sailor is the January 4, 2019 date. Those arriving in December will not be eligible.

ellen0502:  that's what another Navy Mom had told me - he wouldn't be in the Adopt A Sailor group.  I don't know why his Recruiter told us that - he now has an expectation of that & will be disappointed.  Wish the Recruiter had just not said anything at all.

My son left yesterday also.   There will be tears of joy real soon when we get to hear from them again.  Keep positive, I know I am so proud of my son and all of the men and women in his shoes.  I know many of you feel the same.  Goodluck and prayers for all.  Can't wait for my letter!

My son left today. Agree, Christmas will be different. He’s always the life of the party. Tonight’s call was tough.

You got this momma! Hang in there! We're all here for you if you need anything!

My son is leaving in 2 days, I'm so nervous, when will that first call home come ? Is it late at night? I don't want to miss it?

The first call home is the night they arrive but it is very short, and scripted, ours was 17 seconds and that is with our daughter squeezing in a "I Love you momma" We received the call at 10:20 pm CST. Thankfully we did not hear yelling in the background.

We were able to talk to her when she was at the airport(before her flight) although each time I was encouraging her to get some sleep. She called when the plane taxied to the gate in CHI too.

She had me read the attached link 2 days before she left and it truly helped.  I know you said son but think it still applies.  Another friend of mine told me to sound as natural as you can when writing and talking with them, they know you miss them.  Tell them "You got this!" and for us we should remember that too! "We got this!"

They are in good hands and no news is good news for now! Hugs!
