If going to A School in Great Lakes, how much time do they get for liberty following graduation? can they wear civilian clothes in A school? And, do they get liberty for Christmas?

They have to check into the barracks on Friday afternoon, and have Friday evening off, plus Sat and Sun daytime liberty.  They have a curfew each evening, no overnights.

They cannot wear civilian clothes until they earn phase two of liberty.  Here are liberty phases:

You mean leave at Christmas, when they have the chance to come home; think paid vacation days.  Liberty is just normal time off and subject to travel restrictions.  Yes, the school does a holiday stand down.  Two weeks, although he will not have earned much more than five days by then.  He will need to decide if he wants to borrow forward and take the full time, or take just a week, and save days for going home after A school.  Deciding when to use leave is a balancing act.

Here is my blog about the difference between leave and liberty:

Thanks again.

Technically, no, it is not an A school.  A schools teach the basics of a rating.  He is in another category, so A school does not really apply.  It is just preBuds.  BUDS will be considered his "A school" but sailors never call it that because it is so unique.

They report to check in after graduation, you do have sometime together. Then he will call you to pick him up at the gate. I believe it is about 10 PM they need to return that Friday, we were able to drive my sailor to his ship. They have liberty that Saturday and Sunday however the same person that signs them out must be the same to sign them back in.  They can only wear civilian cloths inside the hotel room. Not sure about Christmas/

My son arrives at A School tomorrow.  Taking a taxi from the O'Hare Airport.  It looks like the taxi is only able to drop off at one location on the base.  I am wondering how he will get to where he needs to be with all of his luggage from the drop off point. Any help would be appreciated.

If staying at Great Lakes for A School, can we purchase toiletry items for him and maybe bring him socks and a few clothing items like work out cloths and his tennis shoes from home. Can he take these thing back to his A School.  Planning on getting him what he needs after PIR.  Can we do this?

Yes.

Would a black duffel be best hand off supplies brought from home?

What kind of socks do they need for their uniform in a school at the Great Lakes
