A little about me:
I'm a proud mother of my three amazing daughters. My head is spinning with all the ups and downs of all the excitement lately. On Nov 3, my oldest started her first job as a nurse, my 18yr old left for boot camp and my 13yr old ,,well busy being a teenager. As parents we wait for this moment when are kids become independent and leave the nest. I didn't think it would be so hard to let go. No one could have prepared me to say good bye to my daughter. I am sincerely grateful for this site.
I am here to support my
Son/Daughter
Stage of (Sailor’s) Navy career?
Waiting to leave for Boot Camp
When I heard “Navy,” I...
Was proud and encouraged it
The Navy offers opportunities that...
If I could change on thing about the recruiting process I would like for the Navy office to keep parents in the loop. When my daughter (then 17yrs old) went into the office I had 10 million questions to ask. The recruiter was very very young and didn't really answer my questions. I was however able to get my answers off the internet.
Our Navy experience so far...
It was positive and maturing. Our relationship has grown stronger.

I was clearing my text messages on my cell and had to share with you all, my last text from my daughter @ the Airport on Wednesday …”Hey mom, words cant explain enough how much of an amazing mother u are, no one can replace u ever. You would do anything for me and my sisters. You may not feel at times your doing enough for us as a single mom, but that’s the opposite, you are my role model, you’re the most strongest independent and passionate person I know. You… Continue

I am grateful to have found this site. Your right, I am not alone

during this difficult time. Sad yet happy...My 18yr old daughter is

waiting at the airport for boot camp today. I've been a basket case,

each time I see an item of hers laying around the house. Last night, at

the hotel saying I said good bye.... the best way I can describe this feeling

is ..."someone has kidnapped my child" I cant hold her if she is scared

or nervous…

Hi, Just wanted to see how you are doing. I had an idea too for all of our PIR moms and others. A batiked logo that your brother created for those who are interested. I am becoming involved in some projects for sailors and would like to talk to you about using his logo there too. We could add his name and a email address to the logo should anyone want to talk to him about other ideas. He is very talented and this is an awesome graphic. Let me know what you think.

Hello Ampi, It's been awhile. I just wanted to check in with you to see how your daughter is doing? Where is she now? My son is still in SD, doing really well. He moved up to an E-4 and is working on E-5, he will take that test in March. We are going to go visit him in Nov. when he comes back from deployment. My hubby and I are getting tired of the cold weather here and was seriously thinking of moving to SD. I love the sun! How far are you from that naval base?

NSGL posted a link to this newspaper article on facebook. It made me feel a little better. Here's the main part of the article:

While hundreds of sailors will be Thanksgiving Day dinner guests off the Navy base, Great Lakes will serve more than 2,000 service members from noon to 3 p.m. Thursday.

More than 50 USO of Illinois volunteers will serve a buffet-style feast of turkey and stuffing, potatoes, vegetables, beverages and holiday pies and cakes, and with the help of the Great Lakes Morale, Welfare and Recreation Department, give them a sense of being “home away from home.”

“When the sailors arrive at the USO/MWR Thanksgiving Dinner, they’re served far more than excellent food,” said Ross Docksey, USO of Illinois chairman and CEO. “Each sailor is personally welcomed by a USO volunteer who thanks the sailor for his or her service. Dinner is served by smiling volunteers, all of whom are dedicated to ensuring that the sailors have a wonderful Thanksgiving.”

Hi! Just wanted to see how you were doing and if you received a letter yet? I received my first letter yesterday. I may have received mine faster since I live in KY.
Anyway, just checking in on you. Hope all is well. Take care.
