Hello Everyone! I'm a new Navy mom and have no military experience in the family. Please be patient with me as I have so many questions!
My son signed up for the Navy and I'm very confused about how the process is going. I understand that the process can be slow, but why are they sending my son back and forth for forms on records that are already submitted? Is this normal? We thought all was in order after he went to MEPS once. But he was told that he still needs forms signed off, etc. I'm sure there are thousands of reasons why information needs to be verified, but something seems off. My son even told me that he met a recruit at MEPS that went through MEPS 17 times. I guess it is what it is, but is this normal?

Sorry for the long post, but thank you kindly for any replies!
Sometimes Love is Listening and Not Suggestingtag:navyformoms.ning.com,2023-05-26:1971797:Topic:113375582023-05-26T17:57:49.222ZNavy Nukehttps://navyformoms.ning.com/profile/NavyNuke

I found this on the computer when i opened it this morning. My husband is stressed beyond belief and this is totally not him. We have "You should reenlist" coming in all directions, from the navy, from family. Everyone thinks it's a good idea and not sure why we are hesitant. Sacrifice isn't the same for everyone. Suffering in some sense comes with the job. Not saying that people aren't made for this job, but everyone has to put something on the back burner to live this life. Typically it's…

Typically it's family that suffers. You are frustrated your kids don't call, my kids are upset daddy is never home. But meanwhile they say "you should stay in" " 10 more years and you will get a pension"...

Please. Think before you speak. It effects people and may be putting more of a strain then you think. These big decisions effect their whole lives in more than just positive ways. Trust me. They know they can get that pension, but they also see what they are missing, and a part of it is probably the relationship they had with you.

Don't call and say call me back. Call and say you love them, you are proud, they doing great. Don't make them feel guilty that they just can't manage it right now. I'm a mom too, I feel you. Just realize you could be inevertently pushing them away. They have way more than they should on their plates.

Please don't take this the wrong way. Not everyone does this, I've been guilty more times then I can count. Just a reminder to hug your sailor, if not in person then virtually.

Hello, I am newbie here, My son has signed 3 yr contract for PACT and will be leaving for BC next month. After which we were told he will attend another 3-4 week training and then will be in on-job-training for the area he is interested in (IT). Reading about PACT I am confused with the part - when he joins the Ship, he will be asked for the area of interest and then will be placed in that area for 1 yr training. Hi Navy moms! I have a quick question- last year when I filed my sons taxes, he owed NYS and paid. This year he owes a lot of money to NYS again. I am all for paying taxes, but he has not stepped foot on US soil in 2 years, nevermind NYS. Has anyone ever gotten around this problem? It seems so wrong to be taxed for a state that he only uses as his address because it is where he grew up.
I told him to speak with someone on the base, but in the meanwhile I am so frustrated because of…

Hello everyone! It's been awhile since I was last on here but I have a question to ask... does my son receive leave automatically because of his father suddenly passing while he was on an underway? Sad he found out the way he did but his wife went through all the correct channels in order for him to receive the news! I pray for my…

Series of blows one after another to my Sailor. Top student in A school told pick of Commands on dream sheet. Got a letter saying he was top student we should be so proud/commendation letter in his folder. Gets none of the 3 on dream sheet due to clerical error according to A school. Only one in the middle of COVID sent in the spring to a carrier in Norfolk. All other graduates remained in Pensacola for montsh after due to COVID. When he got there, no commander to report to, everything closed, no transportation no place to eat galleys closed, no people to meet.

Oh, in A school he was told if he signed up for 2 more years now fast track to E-6.

After two weeks assigned an officer. Lives on the ship in port. For days no running water, galleys all closed for COVID, no car to get to Norfolk restraunts, no uber due to COVID. He had to buy a car to get basic needs. Ship unlivable. Bathrooms closed all over the ship, little food available. He had to get an off campus place to stay with other sailors who cant live on the ship. Paying 400 out of pocket and Navy won't reimburse saying the ship is his place to live though it is under construction. Several sailors have COVID who are working on the ship.

Upper command dysfunctional. Works he ass off, told to do all of these quals so he could rank up to E-4 or 5. Worked several hours on the quals then told another error in what he was told or paperwork issue. He did not get the opportunity for upgrade or pay grade he was offered after committing to additional time.

All of the sailors are feeling very low and some suicidal that are attached to this ship. Oh, he also got very sick and they did not test him for COVID and he had to get his own test. I am afraid for his morale as he keeps getting lied to, promised things that don't happen and working him like a dog. He is afraid even to take off for medical attention.

Now this weekend they locked everyone in Norfolk and he can't come home for Thanksgiving. He will be alone/no one has made plans to have have him.

I am very concerned that something is wrong and he is getting screwed but does not know how to advocate for himself. What is his recourse.
