I am angry, frustrated, and more angry. My son signed up for cyber security training and left for bootcamp at the end of June. After 4 weeks, we got a call from him today telling us that he did not pass the background clearance and cannot get his CB training. WTF! Shouldn't the Navy have done their background clearance before he signed a contract and was sent to bootcamp? Did they just lie to him to get him to enlist?

And now he is depressed and has anxiety attacks because he doesn't know what he should do. He joined the navy because they promised him the training he is passionate about and now he is lost. He had a college acceptance to UTSA and was going to start this fall. All his hopes and dreams seem shattered. We told him not to settle for any other training. If the US government is not holding up their end of the contract, then he should come home.

I don't get it! I am frustrated. My baby is hurting and I cannot be there to help him. I don't even know why they have not cleared him. Maybe because his parents are Middle Eastern? "Land of Opportunity" my xxx. Sorry, I am just sooooo disappointed, bitter, and angry.
Need advice on how to help son get his rate ( or one close to the original one)tag:navyformoms.ning.com,2016-10-24:1971797:Topic:94588782016-10-24T04:34:29.048Zfayegirrl4*https://navyformoms.ning.com/profile/fayegirrl513

10 days before his scheduled departure, the dreaded call from his recruiter. His chosen rate was reclassified and no longer available. He would have to chose a new one. He was given 10 minutes via phone to decide. He held off and went into recruiter's office. He was given only one choice-- HM which he does not want. He was told to sign for this rate but they (recruiters) would keep searching and waiting for another rate to open. Fast Forward to present day... Still no word... son was told that there is a small chance he could get switched to an aviation rate ( not sure which one) b/c another recruit wants an HM rate.

My husband and I are frustrated for our son who has done everything that was asked of him by the US Navy recruiters. I understand the needs of the Navy change and with the budget crisis along with the presidential election, its an uncertain time. However, our son is becoming more frustrated at the lack of commitment on the part of his recruiters ( he has 2) that had originally been shown.

I know that the recruiters will not speak with us regarding our son since he is 18. But do we have any recourse as his parents to help him move the process along? He is considering going to speak with an Air Force recruiter to see if that will help,. We know that if he cuts his current contract with the it will be another 6 months before he can do anything else in the Navy. We know of another young man that went through the same thing but had a congressman make a call and his contract was "cut" within a day ( said young man will now be going into the Air Force). Is it worth going that far?

We have one son currently active duty on a sub and did not have any problems from boot camp, sub school, A school and now at his duty station. Son #2 just got caught at the wrong place a the wrong time I guess. Any helpful advice would be most appreciated. We haven't contacted anyone yet. Trying to let our son handle this but it's going nowhere. Okay, I have been reseaching like crazy for my son before he joins so that he makes sure he is armed with knowledge and information when he goes to MEPS. What I want to know is, in his contract, does it make a difference whether it says joining the Naval Reserve for a 4 yr active , 2 yr reserve, and then 2 yr IRR? The recruiter said it doesn't matter as he will still have 4yrs active time and it means he gets paid out of a different pot. and he tried to sell it that it was better for promotion…

The recruiter said it doesn't matter as he will still have 4yrs active time and it means he gets paid out of a different pot. and he tried to sell it that it was better for promotion opportunities. I think it DOES matter and the recruiter is telling us incorrect or at least "Rosie" information. Plus to me the 2 yr. Reserve time means to me he will have to do drill time . I was in Marines and Air Guard, so I am not lacking in first hand info plus I am a bit skeptical. Does anyone know what is up with this? Also the recruiter showed me a sample contract so I know what the new ones will look like. My husband went through MEPS today and got a great score on ASVAB and passed the physical and did not get a job, he has to go back on July 6th in order to get his job.
My husband is currently in boot camp and I'm wanting/needing to move to an apartment (its just me and my 6 month daughter here and the house we live needs too much maintenance.) In order to get past the application process I need two of my husbands pay stubs. He graduates next month so I'm wondering if I could get them PIR weekend? And also, how does the housing allowance work?

My son started working with a recruiter before graduating high school this year and we had a pretty good handle on the process for getting him through the various hoops for a Navy Diver job. Unfortunately, there was a scheduling foul-up for his knee waiver (he had an ACL replacement nearly two years ago) and he didn't end up getting approved until post-graduation.

He has now gotten his waiver, passed the PST for Diver (Special Ops) and is ready to sign.

HOWEVER, the staff in our recruiting office has changed and we're getting some conflicting responses about what comes next.

He's been asked to start "training" with a specialist at our local aquatic center twice a week in prep for Dive School. No problem.

He's been told he has to retake the PST once a month, including once at least 14 days prior to boot camp (presumably to make sure he's not becoming complacent). No problem.

He's been told that, because he's now graduated high school, there can be no delayed entry or reserve status or any of that. He has to sign as an active recruit. No problem.

And he's been told that it may take a few months for him to be in the top 10% of the recruits who've passed the Diver PST so that they can get him a Diver contract (only so many slots open per month, blah, blah). Got it. No problem.

Here's the part I don't get: The latest thing is that someone has said to him that he should sign a "first contract" with some other job besides Diver so that he has something to "fall back on" if he is unable to make it through boot camp. In other words, he should sign as sayyyy. . a deckhand or whatever; then continue through the process with the Diver specialist and the monthly PSTs and all that until he gets the opportunity to sign a second contract as a diver (assuming that can happen before he gets shipped off to boot camp as a deckhand). And then if, for whatever reason, he "flunks out" of boot camp or A School, he'll be able to just downgrade his rate to a deckhand without any hassle. He's told that if he does NOT do it that way, there is a strong chance he'll just get booted completely out of the Navy altogether if something untoward happens in boot camp or A School (because by then there won't be any job openings).

Does that sound right to you?? The weird part is that he COULD HAVE signed for a deckhand (or whatever) job the day he got his knee waiver, but the same recruiters plucked him back home and said he would not sign until he passed his PST. And at the time, I thought that was really cool -- that they didn't want to chance him getting to boot camp without the job he really wanted.

I'm just a little confused and trying to make sure we're not mixing up what he's being told -- he is getting info from more than one person, you see (recruiter, recruiter Chief, training guy, etc.)

Thoughts??
