Can someone assist? Our sailor is coming home soon and we are planning on going to homecoming. He has told us that he put us on the Ombudsman list but we have not been contacted. I went to the Command Ombudsman page and sent a message but have not heard back. We've also tried to call the Family Readiness Center at the base for info but can't get through. Any help would be appreciated!!!

Hi Everyone,

I know the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) allows leave for military family members to attend 'military-sponsored functions' (in addition so several other reasons). Does anyone know if a homecoming from a deployment count as a 'military-sponsored function' that would qualify under FMLA?

Thanks,

Dear Navy Moms,

Last year in October, I had the honor and privilege of being a part of an amazing event, called the Honor Flight. It's an event that honors the WWll Vets and gives them the "Welcome Home" they never received. Vets are taken on a day trip to Washington and on the flight home, they do "mail call" where they are given letters from family, friends and strangers who just want to thank them for the service.

When they arrive home, the airport is filled with people, banners, cheerleaders, bands, news reporters, flags etc.. It's truly an unbelievable day for these Vets. This flight had 16 vets on it and I received over 300 cards and letters and gifts for these Vets. It was overwhelming for all.

It's that time again!!! The next Honor Flight will be on Saturday, May 31st, in Fort Lauderdale Airport. I heard there will be about 50 Vets on this flight and they will be doing the mail call again on the airplane.

If you are interested in sending a card or letter or making a "Welcome Home" sign, please send me a message and I will send you the address where to send the cards too. We had an amazing turnout in October and the Vets were amazed and thankful for all the cards and letters that were sent by you all.
I know some of you like to personalize your letters and I will have the names of the Vets in the next few weeks. Thank you again for all your support for this wonderful event. And please feel free to pass this information along. The Vets really enjoyed the last set of mail they received from all of us.
A VERY PROUD NAVY MOM....
