Alex arrived at the Great Lakes on February 14, funny, Valentines Day is suppose to be a fun day and this was the day my heart broke. I took it badly, I'm not going to lie but each day gets better. You should have received a 3 second call from your son saying he arrived. I got a form letter dated February 19 with Alex's division and ship, and instructions to parents. He wrote a line at the end that he was good and was enjoying the experience. I got 1 phone call about 3 weeks ago for 20 minutes and another call this past Wednesday (before Easter) only because there was a death in our family. They asked him if he needed to make a call home and he said yes and they allowed it.
Start writing your letters so you can send them out once you get the address. I write to Alex every day and he told me he never though he would look forward for mail from home so much. I sent him writing paper, stamps, pens, and labels with his return address printed up and labels for all those who Alex is writing to so he can save some time, as they have very little time to write. Alex said they receive mail every day except Sundays.
Also, you will be receiving a box with all your son's belongings in it. Took me three days to open the box.
Alex is pre-SEAL so when he graduates he will stay in the Great Lakes for 3-5 months and then go to California.
Good luck to your son, go NAVY!

Hello, my son Alex is in DIV 139, SHIP 10. I suppose it was asking too much to get a phone call on Easter Sunday as I spoke to Alex the Wednesday before. That was the 2nd call I got and only because we had a death in the family. When Alex got my letter about the death, he showed his superior officer and they asked him if he wanted to make a call home. Ladies, can I tell you that that call was heaven? We spoke about 15 minutes and I didn't want to hang up. He finally said "Mom, someone is waiting for the phone" and I knew some mom out there was waiting just like I was so I hung up. He mentioned his new recruit uniform and I cannot wait to see him at graduation, April 11. Alex, is pre-SEAL and won't be leaving the Great Lakes after graduation. He will be in pre-BUDS for a few months and then he will go to California for BUDS. Please say a prayer for him and the others that they make it as most of them (I know Alex has) have wanted this since they were little boys. God bless them and their parents! Go NAVY!
