To qualify for Corpsman, (HM) you must receive a composite score of 146 from the above three categories: VE+MK+GS=146

The 146 may have been raised or lowered for Corpsman, and may be different for various Navy jobs. This is only for illustration purposes to better understand the difference between the Armed Forces Qualification Test, (AFQT) and the sub-test composite scores.
They earn 30 days leave a year - it's just of matter of when they can take it. Some of the schools are not in session during the holiday week so often they will come home. They do pay for their own flights for leaves.

I was wondering about that - do they get leave - just not enough to go home? I am always willing to travel to my son if he has time and wants me to.

So April dear, have you mapquested how long of a drive it is there? Our son called last night and he said that he might be coming home for Christmas as well. I would love that but not getting my hopes up. He is due to finish his first school, mid November so I think it will depend on when and where his other school maybe before we can make any plans. But like you - I'll be happy to see him whenever we can.

School is going pretty good. He has made so many lifelong friends. He is very homesick though. He may not get to come home after graduation June 20th , they told him it might be Christmas before he gets to come home. I will take him whenever he comes home....

Hey April, I think it more than just the score, they have to hit these numbers to qualify for the rating and they also interview them to see what their interests and goals are. Sub Electronics is a pretty heavy duty field. He will get all the electronics training but will be putting them to use on a sub. It's not a light weight job that's for sure!
I did post some faqs on submarine life in the education forum that you might find interesting - I learned alot! How's school going for Tyler?
