My son graduates the same day. Good question?
You can take some things with you and give them to your Sailor if they are moving to the other side for A School. They cannot have it immediately following PIR, but they can have their things when they return from liberty.
Don't take too much stuff to them, they won't need much the first couple of weeks. You will want to give them their phone, laptop, and a couple items of civilian clothing. Their favorite jeans, underwear (if they don't normally wear tighty-whities or granny panties), tennis shoes, lounge wear etc. Do keep in mind they may not wear the same size clothes as they did when they entered BC. Shoes that may have been comfortable before BC, may not be after BC.
There are regulations on civilian clothing too. For jeans, pant leg cannot touch the ground, there can be no tears, fraying, patching etc. T-shirts, if black, brown, white, and most include dark blue, must have something printed on them. Those colors cannot be a plain t-shirt to not mistake them for undershirts.
Sailors can't wear civilian clothes until they have phased up. The process of phasing up can take a few weeks.
Thank you, this is helpful.
