My son leaves today. We took him to the hotel last night and my heart is breaking. I know that I needed to cut my "mom" strings but this is so difficult. He and I have been so close throughout his life. I think it is harder on me than it is on him. I am cleaning up his room and all I can think about is the times he won't be with me to enjoy the things he used to enjoy so much.

I know that this is what he needs in his life and he will become a better person/man for it, but it doesn't make me fell any better right now. He has never been one to pass on answers very well so I am so scared I will miss something. I am so glad I found this website, even though I only found it yesterday. Boy do I wish I had found it earlier, it would have helped so much!

How soon do we get his address and how does he give it to us?

My oldest son left on thursday, my birthday, april 11. He is my best friend, as we grew up together. I am struggling with it. I know it will become easier as time goes on. His last call to me came around 1 something that day to tell me he made it and he was safe, he sounded a bit nervous and scared, which in turn made it worse for me ( and the poor cashier in walmart when i started bawling as I was checking out). I think I have posted on his FB about 20 times and I am driving his brothers crazy. I hate when people ask me about him because it just brings me to tears each time. I just turned 35 and he will be 19 soon. So we have always been very close. His girlfriend and I have been crying rivers.....I can't wait for this to pass....She has skipped a few classes and I have been requesting off when there are extra nurses on...This is such a terrible feeling.
Hello All!

Hello All!

I have just shipped my second SR off to the RTC yesterday. My first left almost exactly one year ago prior to this one. I had forgot how hard it was and I haven't really stopped crying since it sank in this morning. But, I know he's going to be just fine. I got the "I made it, I'm safe and I'll contact you again in a couple weeks" call last night. I'd also forgot how unnerving waiting for that call can be. But, he sounded so calm and ready when he called. I really tried to hurry up the call so he didn't get yelled at to get off the phone but wanted to keep him on there so bad! I'm sure there are others on here that know what I'm talking about.

I can't wait to find out what ship/DIV he is so I can join the other loved ones on here and get to know them!

To all the moms, dads, wives, husbands, girlfriends, boyfriends: I know how difficult it is to let go of your significant other. It has been approximately eight weeks since I have seen my son. I can tell you this. This web page will be an excellent recourse and comfort. This Friday my son will graduate. I am so excited. I quote him "Boot Camp has its moments, times in which you think "What was I thinking" and other in which you know I MADE THE RIGHT CHOICE. " Please be patient with…

" Please be patient with your SR (sailor recruit) I guarantee you that these weeks will go by sooner than you think. My advise: Write every day (they will need that). Keep your phone next to you at all times (you never know when you will get a call from him or her). Talk to other significant others on these forums. Soon you will all be in my positions. To all of you I wish you well fair winds and sunny skies ahead.
