<p>When my son was on the Truman last deployment there were large groups of sailors whose contracts were up and they flew them off the ship and back to Norfolk to process out. There were also many new sailors being flown on to the ship during the deployment. This was near the beginning of the deployment. It might depend on how close to the end of deployment he is.....</p>

Or, their contract may be extended until the ship returns and they can be processed out. They need to attend the "exit classes", or TAPS. In any case, what will not happen, is they will not ride a naval vessel as a newly separated civilian. </p>
