My MM Nuke just got detachment orders from Goose Creek for March 5th. He has been told he will be on hold for 8 weeks once in NY.  We are looking for any recommendations on apartments/housing close to school.  Any area to stay away from? of course looking for economical, possibly a studio situation. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My son rented a place with other guys on McMaster Street in Ballston Spa. He was quite happy with the apartment.

what address in Ballston Spa will the base be? I can't find it on Google to search from.

My son has an apartment in Glenville..A little longer drive to the plant, but a nice quiet neighborhood.  He loves it.

There are apartments on Big Horn Path rd? in Ballston Spa.  Don't know name of apartments.

Son chose this complex because they put in military clause and had three bedrooms.  It is important to be close to Ballston Spa or in Ballston Spa because parking is difficult and arrival at least 45 minutes before start time for daily assignment is essential to get parking space.  Even though guys carpool as much as possible, seems to be an issue. Also after about two / two and half months your sailor will be put on 12 hour shifts and get off some shifts at midnight, they are exhausted and should not have to drive far.

Most apartments not furnished....like college off campus situations, one roomie needs to bring kitchen supplies, one the tv, a couch, and beds are needed.  Once my son got apartment he crashed on floor until he got furniture, he should have gotten apartment a week earlier.

I know there might be a group heading to Ballston Spa soon and looking for a place to live.  My son has been there since January and he and his buddies rent at The Winners Circle.  It's pretty close to the plant (which is a good thing especially during the winter!).  Very nice apartments.  They have 1, 2 & 3 bedrooms and nice amenities - pool, weight room, garage.  They do require a one year lease but they rent to a lot of Navy personnel and they will allow you to break the lease when your orders change.  We visited in April and I can vouch for them - nice apartments!  Oh - they are unfurnished but they do come with a washer/dryer!
