My son arrived at RTC on 6/20. On this past Friday, I just happened to be off work and got a call from a Waukegan number. My heart immediately started pounding because I knew from when my oldest was there, it was way too soon to be getting a call from him. I was on a country road and knew I would be loosing service, so I pulled off the road as I answered. I heard a very shaky “Hey Mom”. It was all I could do to keep from bursting into tears.
I asked if something was wrong and if he was OK. Still shaky, his voice beginning to crack, he says “ I wasn’t expecting to have to call so soon, so I’m trying to find my words”. Again I asked what was going on. Turns out, he was filling out some paperwork for emergency contact stuff and needed mine and his dads addresses. Several months ago, his dad left and I had to move about an hour away to find work, so he moved in with family friends to be able to stay in the same school and not have to switch in the middle of his senior year. He didn’t have his addresses with him at the moment and he doesn’t have my new address memorized. We don’t even have his dads address, so he just used mine. Anyway, he just had a second, but he did say he did his initial run that day and passed and he thinks his form letter is going out on Monday. He also said he’s not able to write letters yet, but he will be soon and he is in a 900 division and will be performing at a few of the PIR ceremonies prior to his. I guess I’ll find out in a few days when that will be. I’m in Illinois, so luckily the mail doesn’t take all that long to get to me. He said all that information very quickly then just said he loves me and had to go, then hung up. I think his voice cracking at first was just because he’s used to calling me every day, and hasn’t been able to. Once he got his composure, he was on a mission to say what he needed to. Basically, I said all of this to say that we should be hearing something from the 6/20 arrivals this week. Watch those mailboxes!
The initial run is on the fif…tag:navyformoms.ning.com,2018-07-01:1971797:Comment:104033322018-07-01T01:45:37.398Zlemonelephanthttps://navyformoms.ning.com/profile/lemonelephant

I think we will get letter this week. They have to pass the 1.5 mile run first. If they don't pass, it may affect their graduation date, which is why we haven't received letter yet. I believe they test on day 5, which would have been this past week.

My husband and I have watched a lot of videos online :). Things have changed since he went to boot camp.

Thank you for the words of encouragement. I plan on lifting him up and encouraging him 100%. Reminding him why he is there and to take it one day at a time. It’s just super hard not talking to him. But it’s part of it I know. I thought I was prepared, I wasn’t. Lol
