The Shadowhawks are an Electronic Attack Squadron & are deployed on the Bush aircraft carrier in the Gulf.

There are 216 sailors assigned to the Shadowhawks -- 190 men and 26 women.  They received pillowcases when they arrived on the ship, so no need to worry about pillowcases for this adoption.

I received this sweet message from our POC:  “…it is so hot out here.  But it seems wrong to ask for anything.  Whatever you do will be received well by our Sailors.  And, thank you for what you are doing, not just for us, but for every Sailor life you are touching.”  He went on to say that our ideas for them would be far better than anything he could think of & he didn’t want to ask others for input as he wants this to be a huge & total surprise.

So, Moms we have our work cut out for us …  One thing I thought we should keep in mind is that they will be receiving their boxes right around  9/11 – the reason they are deployed & still fighting this war on terror that the other side started 10 years ago.  Let’s make certain that our sailors know:

                         “We Will Never Forget.”

Many will have sad memories of that day – NYC, DC & PA, let’s do our best to put a positive spin on things. I was thinking for a theme - “Picnic in Central Park”.  Central Park is a GREAT place for a picnic!

And, August is ‘National Picnic Month.’  In Central Park, people read, play ball, throw Frisbees, children blow bubbles & draw pictures with sidewalk chalk. There are artists painting & drawing, people writing or talking.  Of course, we can’t do anything about walking a dog (& pooper-scooping), but people jog, do yoga & catch some rays while playing in the fountains.  And, of course, eat!!!  (So we need food/snack items.)

Perhaps items can be red, white & blue to acknowledge American endurance on the 10th Anniversary of 9/11.

Shipping will be August 22 – 27th.

These are just my thoughts.  So, let the discussions begin … !!!!

MESSAGE JUST RECEIVED THAT THE FEMALE SAILORS ARE BEING TAKEN ON.  If someone wants to help in some way, contact Lauren.

love the idea of ants!!  how fun!!
The "chocolate-covered ants" I found were actual ants covered in chocolate.  YUCK.  I like the idea of plastic ants much much better!!!
Excited about our packing party in Indianapolis region on Aug. 20th.  Great timing.  So far only 10 RSVPs that I know of, but always more seem to show up:)

HELLO NYPD>...mamma of the month (MoM) YAH!!!!!!!!!11
These are the kids that again could use water bottles ---- really loved how the WA moms packed things in the bottles and they were so perfect for them too ---hydrate hydrate -- I think they were expensive though ---Diane do you remeber what it cost and for how many the saberhawks had ?
Were they the safe plastic or metal water bottles?
I saw some great ones 1/2 price at Kohl's last night, but I have already checked with Kohl's in the past and they donate to children's causes.  Gonna get my hubby to take me to Walmart tomorrow and see what they have and will they donate.  If not, I might just buy the ones at Kohl's.  They only had about 12 or so left (that I saw), maybe more at another register.  Will have to see.  These were light-weight, but guaranteed to keep cold things cold and hot things hot.  They ran between $5-6.  Then there were plastic ones for less $3-4.  Can't imagine anyone buying them at full price!

Yes I do know....expensive....but so worth it....

I think we could get some water bottles but logo on them, that's another story, time is a REAL issue...but I bet GATOR GALS could get us some without logos for them?? what do ya say.????

I think it is a great idea logos would be wonderful, but maybe we can make stickers with their logo on them and do it our selves ...not as professional, but more love.(we could put a little we ship love on the bottom )..I'd be happy to work on them

Find the price difference with MAS logos and plain.  It's the shipping that's a killer when shipping a bunch of them--lightweight but takes up a bunch of space in a box. when I pack one in one of my boxes, I unpack a bunch of those singles drink mixes, and fill my bottles with those and sometimes add some life-savers and cough drops.
