Hello Everyone! We would like to start a Basket Project for our, “Meet and Greet” to benefit Sarge and his wife, who put on these Meet & Greets weekly as long as there is a PIR. Sarge and his wife purchase/make this food for you. His wife bakes brownies every week, it is a free meal; they pay for this out of their own pocket. This is just an idea to help supplement their out of pocket cost in which he puts right back into the next weeks PIR.
What is involved is that you simply volunteer to put together baskets or tote bags with items from their state, or bath items or any other goodie items. All these are brought in and placed on a table at the Meet & Greet with a container in front of each to collect the raffle ticket of the people who want to win it. The 2 part raffle tickets are sold. Attendees have an opportunity to place tickets in the container of their choice. Then drawings are made for the winner. I hear it is great fun!! Participation is strictly voluntary on your part! The total of the items in each basket should be like $25 - $35. You can pack the separate elements in their luggage, then look for a basket or container in Great Lakes, if you want. There is a Super Walmart right smack in the middle of the hotels in Waukegan/Gurnee (Springhill Suites, Holiday Inn Express, Courtyard Marriot, Residence Inn). Or the completed basket can be one of their 2 carry-ons. Remember, your purse counts as a carry-on. This info is just what I have gleaned from other groups who have done it.
Let me know if you wish to participate :).

I will be doing one for Florida :)

I talked to my coworker and he will check with his local but he doesnt see any problem at all with the donation. Also, here is another idea for the baskets items, check with major restaurant chains (ex. Abblebees, Starbucks) if they like donate a gift card and the winners can give them to their SR to use during A School when they phase up. And if you live by a base that have an A School, check with the local places too. Working with experience on getting donations for various parent groups that I have been in, these places are more than happy to donate.

Those are GREAT ideas, my3luv!!

I do believe the raffle works like you said on the main page:  $1 for one ticket, $5 for 6 tickets, $10 for ____  $20 for______.  Something like that.  Yep, the donated rolle of raffle tickets would be very much appreciated!!

It is easier to keep it at 1 for $1.00 and 6 for $5.00. That is how all the HS parent groups does it at the football games. Easier to remember.
I will do a basket from Maryland :)
I will do a basket for Pennsylvania.

Is there anyone from Kentucky!   My husband said we can do Louisanna (where we live now) and Kentucky (we my SR was born!)

Wooo Hooo!   I cannot wait to meet you all!

Question about the baskets....are they basically for the families and SRs during the day and day after the PIR or stuff the family can take home and enjoy.  Should it be general stuff any one can use or can it be gender specific. Or just throw in a bunch of stuff for now, later and gift cards the sailor can take?  It sounds fun.  Just thinking it through....

I am planning to put all kind of stuff together that everyone can enjoy anytime. I am planning to put buckeye candy from Malley's chocolate in our basket because Ohio is know as the Buckeye State.
The baskets can consist of whatever you'd like :) Since I'm from Florida, I'm doing mine in a Summer/Beach theme... We've gotten a great response with people all over doing baskets so it should be great fun! I'm so excited!!!
Count me in and my daughter NavySis..... We will do a "Sunny California" basket!,

Hi I will be donating a Arizona Basket!  Can't wait to see everyone! Very excited for this Project!
