Hi!!

My daughter is in 'A' school for EM. She has finished BECC and will start ATT on 12/3/2018.

She is telling me that she will finish ATT the week of Jan 7-11, 2019, and that her EM strand will only last a couple of weeks.

Is this true? This does not sound correct to me.

Thanks!!

With a long school like that, you can plan for a three day weekend, and he will have plenty of time to earn a good liberty phase so he can spend the night off base with you. Another plan with a long school is to wait for the holiday stand down, when he can come home on Christmas leave, and marry then.

You're lucky, even though he cannot gt leave between each training, you still have good options. Congratulations.

He is going to be an EM. He will be in Great Lakes for about a year, I'm thinking. I know he has BECC then ATT and then he starts his A School. I was just curious if they get a break between each segment of classes or if they are continuous. If he can't get leave then he will just have to get married on a Friday and Saturday like you said.

Which rating? EPACT or something with an A school? Because that changes the final answer to your question. If EPACT (undesignated seaman), then yes, he'd be finished at Great Lakes and could take leave and go home. If he still has an A school, then no, leave would not b granted.

Normally, no one gets to take leave during A school/training. That is why all the marriage advice says for the fiance to go to Great Lakes and marry there, license on Friday afternoon, ceremony on Saturday morning. If doing this, the sailor has to put in a chit letting his chain know about the marriage, and may have to go to a class. Taking leave to go get married is not a usual thing at Great Lakes. The reason to marry during A school is so the spouse can be recognized by the detailer when orders are issued. That provides a paid move to the new duty station, and decreases the likelihood of receiving overseas orders.
