Just a quick note to ask a couple of short questions that I haven’t been able to find elsewhere.
How do some of the people here have pics as a profile pic.? My son graduates on 30 NOV and I don’t have any pics. Everything I’ve read says the pics and book don’t come until after PiR Can someone please clarify?
Also - about how often are they able to call home around week 6-8? He’s only called me one time. :(
Of course his father claims he calls him and his wife weekly - trying not to let that get to me, it’s not about me, I’m just curious.
How many have you gone to the Meet and Greet the night prior? I’m staying in a hotel in Chicago because he wants to hang out in the city with a friend/s he met there. ( His A school is at Great Lakes) It’s a hike from Chicago to Great Lakes - just wondering if the Meet and Greer is worth it.
One more thing - the only time I have with him is Friday after he in-processes A school. I estimate around 5 or 6 hours I leave for Kuwait from Chicago at 0345 on SAT, 1 DEC.
Anyone have any ideas what we can do during that timeframe in Chicago? We live in Illinois so we’re familiar with Chicago - just wondering if here are any MUST SEE spots.
Thanks for any advice
The profile pics with Sailors are members that have Sailors, not recruits.
Phone calls are never guaranteed. Recruits will usually get to call home at least once between arrival and the "I am a Sailor" call, which comes the last week of boot camp. Some recruits will get more calls, it just depends on when their RDC schedules them. It would be highly unusual, if not impossible, for any recruit to call home once a week.
As for your Sailor traveling to Chicago on Friday, not really a good idea. Time restraints from when he starts liberty to when he must be back on base that night will be very tight. It won't leave much time for anything except maybe a quick dinner. He will have approx 5 or 6 hours liberty on Friday, but taking out travel time to Chicago you are left with only two or three hours.
The meet and greet is full of information, and you will meet other who have recruits graduating with yours. It is a fun evening, but going is up to you.
When does your recruit graduate? Please join the PIR group for your sons graduation date.
