Hello friends, my boyfriend is leaving for bootcamp tomorrow. I'm going to see him swear in tomorrow morning but he has to stay in a hotel tonight so today was essentially his last day. I'm a total mess. He is my best friend, we basically live together etc and this is going to be an enormous change for both of us. It's hitting me really hard. Does anyone have any tips for coping? Please tell me it gets better lol.

Your reply is amazing like seriously thank you. I'm not super motivated when it comes to arts and crafts but I'm really good at it so I'll probably give that a try haha. My bf is extremely attached to my service dog because she's like our kid so maybe I'll draw a pic of her or something. I already plan on writing every day and sending him small pictures of me or my dog. He was adamant about studying the chain of command and stuff beforehand so I know a lot of that as well because I helped quiz him, but I will definitely learn more! That's a really good tip, thank you for that. I'm making a countdown to his estimated PIR date and I have a horse and a dog and college to keep me busy so I know I'll be fine. I just need to get through these first few days. I'm not a crier but man I've hardly stopped crying since Sunday night!

Hey girl, I am right there with you!  My fiancee left February 8.  It literally felt like my world was ending, like I had just lost my best friend.  I started writing letters right away.  I included every little detail of my day.  Sometimes my letters are long, but I don't care-it made me feel like I was still talking to him everyday.

Be careful on sending big packages.  According to my fiancee, if they get a big package, they have to open it in front of his RDC.  This might cause unwanted attention.

I missed his first phone call.  I was MISERABLE for a week, and still feel terribly guilty.  Make sure you keep your phone on you all the time.  I didn't have service when he called (of course).  Sometimes they give additional phone calls, but not always.

You will get a form letter giving his PIR date about 10 days after he leaves.  I was surprised because it was a week earlier than we anticipated.  Be prepared for changing dates and not knowing the A-school start date.  That's my biggest issue-I am a planner.  Make sure you are flexible.

Hope this helps!!

This just made me feel a million times better.  We are already 3 weeks in and no contact yet, but I am going to start studying now! I read through everything before, but that is such a good idea. Thank you!!!!!!

When my husband left the initial two weeks were so hard girl but I promise you it does get better. We've been in for two years now and he's going on deployment so I do believe this prepare us for their deployments. I promise you it does get better but have your phone super loud, on you all the time, and it's gonna be ok. Stay busy and if you need to chat hit me up. Been there done that love.

Yeah it's been about 2.5 weeks now and I'm doing so much better. He's in a push division so I got his Form Letter and box exactly a week after he left! I got his first set of letters yesterday and that helped a lot. I've heard that it really does prepare you for deployments, and I'm thankful for that. I was a horrible mess the week he left but it's gotten better. I always have my phone on me super loud haha. If i'm in class I have it on my lap so I can see if someone is calling me when it's on silent.

My sailor and I are in the exact same boat!!I'm five weeks into boot camp and I would say it took about three for me to get 'adjusted'. The bad days come in waves though. The best advice I can give is to be gentle with yourself, and stay as busy as possible! I've picked up some hours at work and I also have been doing some volunteering and it has helped a lot!! I'm sure by now you are doing okay since you are a few weeks in bet don't hesitate to reach out if you want to talk! <3

Okay i know its going to be hard , but know these next couple of weeks are going to go by fast you just have to be strong for him. Also ice cream is always a good lol, but if you ever need someone too talk too I'm your girl.
