Well I know a lot of us had been posting ideas bout what to send in care packages. I know I see a lot of cool stuff then when it comes time to send a package again I cannot remember any new ideas! So I would love to have one place to come to get a ton of cool ideas! So feel free to post any ideas you have about what to send even if it seems obvious!!! Thanks in advance for the help!
So far: I have sent Christmas Candy, sunflower seeds, snack packs of oreos, nutter butters, and chips ahoy, crystal light packets, an OSU shirt, a keychain photo frame that I can add pics to and send it to him, some of his favorite mints, some wherthers originals, razors he likes, our chrismas card, some picutres, I am getting two magazine subscriptions he wants. I am also gonna buy some beef jerky.
I would love any suggestions! <3
That is too cool. My son loves plain white cake, so I am going to try this and send him some. I can't wait to until he receives it. I can't thank you enough for this wonderful idea. =)
yay! I hope he enjoys it! I got him some little puches of icing to go with it bc he isnt big on icing. lol plus this one is brownies. next one I am doing is devils food cake
How many jars do you send him at a time? And this might be a silly question, but what does he do with the Jars after the cakes gone?
I am sending 4 this time. and honestly its the first time I have sent them.. I figure I am doing most the work he can surely figure out what to do with the jars afterwards lol.
This is adorable! Truly wish I had an ounce of talent when it comes to crafts lol I'm sure your sailor will love it :)
Meagan, do you know if the USPS still offers Military Care Kits? I remember it being mentioned on the regular thread, but I couldn't find it. And USPS site didn't have any mention of it when I check this morning.
from what I heard they do.... justt sec... let me find the info I saw the other day....Here ya go!!!
Military Care Package Mailing Kit
Since Priority Mail service supplies are the packaging of choice for families preparing care packages for service members overseas, the USPS has created a "Mili-kit" based on the items most frequently requested by the military.
The kit contains:
* Three (3) each of flat rate boxes O-FRB1 and O-FRB2
* Two (2) each of Cube boxes OBOX7
* Address labels - Label # 228 8 each
* Address labels - Label # 106-A 1 each
* Customs FORM 2976-A 8 EA.
* Customs FORM 2976-E 8 EA.
The kit may be requested by calling 1-800-610-8734 (Packing Supply) and:
1. Choose your language (“1” is English, “2” is Spanish).
2. Choose option 1 (it states it is for Express Mail service, Priority Mail or Global Express Guaranteed).
3. When you reach a live agent, request “CAREKIT04.”
4. Please allow 7-10 days for delivery.
Note: These are free supplies, postage must be affixed.
Additionally, you can find guidelines for packing, addressing, and shipping items to U.S. troops at https://www.usps.com/ship/apo-fpo-guidelines.htm
My understanding about the military kits is that you have to call for them, they are not available any other way.
Thanks for the info about shipping. I just ordered a bunch of those boxes and customs labels. I'm panicking though-I just mailed a small padded envelope with a card and a couple of CD's in there and just bunged a couple first class stamps on it and popped it in the mailbox. Will this be OK or have I messed up by not putting a customs declarations etc on it? Argh!
I googled Slim-Jims. Hmm well they wouldn't be my first choice of snack food but there ya go lol!!
You are welcome! Anytime you have a question just ask away! The ladies on this page are soo helpful! and if we dont know I am a freak about researching stuff so I can help ya or talk to an Ombudsman.
hmm idk, I have sent him something before without a customs form and I have heard of ppl doing so for smaller items. the worst that will happen probably is they will send it back to you. and have you try again. :) Dont worry it will be ok! we all make mistakes! :)
haha they are yummy. they sound weird and gross but I dont know lol I guess its just us Americans and some of our weird snacks lol ;) They help fill ya up a little too so thats helpful for the guys! :)
Thanks Meagan! And thanks Ladies for such wonderful ideas that I would have never thought of.........my son asks for very little. This last email he asked for lots of zebra cakes, although I'm not sure how that fits in with all the working out he claims to do LOL
