While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Completed MEPs now on to BC

HI my son completed MEPS yesterday and his ship off date is March 29, 2018. His Job will be an MA in the Navy?

My question is if he ships off on that date and finishes BC on time what might be the approximate date of his Graduation? May 25, 2018?? I want to plan on being there, but need to know in advance.

2nd question is PDays in addition to the 8 weeks of BC?

As far as I know, there is a branch at most Navy bases, at least in the U.S and the bigger overseas bases. Our son-in-law opened an acct with Navy Fed because at home he banked with a local credit union. My daughter had an acct with Wells Fargo. They are now in Hawaii where there are no national banks. So, they have the Navy Fed branch right there on base. For them, it was a good choice.

My son as well had other Accounts opened but decided to go with the Navy Credit Union, he figured it would be easier for him being on Base.

He's going to be in the reserves so he wont be gone for long periods of time, but to set up the direct deposit it is ok to use an outside bank as long as he has information? Correct?

I'm just not sure if we are going to be able to get to the branch to open an account before he leaves.

Also, I wanted to know other than the clothes and what fits in his wallet. Do they need to take anything with them like shampoo or razors, or advil??

Also are they allowed to take a picture of anyone in wallet.

Also, what kind of things can we send them other than letters at bootcamp? My son will be at BC during his birthday and I was wondering can I send a card or anything?

The Things to do in the Last Month discussion tells you what he needs to take with him. Number 1f. tells what he needs to take if he chooses to use his own financial institution rather than setting up an account with NFCU or the Armed Forces Bank once he gets to the RTC. That page also tells what he can take with him and yes, he can have small photos. He may want to shave at the hotel so he can take a disposable razor that he will throw away at the hotel. He will get everything he needs at the RTC. No, he cannot take any OTC meds with him.

Yes, you can send cards and letters. Don't send any noisy cards or cards with glitter. There is more on what you can and cannot send in the Letter Writing page.

My son leaves in April and chose the same rate! :) I hope they don't move up his ship date!
