OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

Confused about the recruiter's responsilbilities
Before my future sailor left for boot camp we were told we could go to see her and say goodbye. When we arrived at Ft Dix, they wouldn't let us in. We were told the recruiter was supposed to file paperwork for us and she was supposed to be there to sponsor us so we could go through the gate. The recruiter told my daughter she saw no reason for any family to be there to say good bye and thought it was ridiculous. The paperwork was blown off. At Ft Dix we were told to call the recruiter and have her come to the welcome center but she wouldn't answer or return any of our calls.
Today, my daughter called and left a mailing address as to where we can start sending mail. She said the recruiter was supposed to call us with the address but she didn't. Again, we've been calling and leaving messages, trying to get information but she won't return our calls.
My daughter was able to give us the graduation dates that she's allowed to spend time with family before she leaves for A School.
Was the recruiter supposed to file paperwork for us and sponsor us so we could've said goodbye before my daughter left for boot camp? Who's responsibility was it to provide the mailing address to us? And, Is there any paperwork that we have to obtain and fill out in order to see my daughter graduate from boot camp?
I'm confused and just want to know what I have to do to be able to attend my daughter's graduation. It's important to her that her family attends. And it's important to me too. And if there's any other information needed, where do we get it? On the "leaving for boot camp day" we drove about 300 miles total just trying to say goodbye. We finally ended up at the airport and caught my daughter there. Her recruiter also called her the Sunday evening before boot camp at 9 pm and told her she had to be at the base by 7 pm. Is it me or is it supposed to be this way?

Yes, when the MEPS station is on a military base, the recruiter has to send in paperwork to allow you to enter the base and indicate a sponsor (your future Sailor).
It is your SR's responsibility to provide the mailing address to you in the form letter. The RTC wants you to wait on the form letter before sending any mail, so if the recruiter did not call you with that info, that is perfectly fine. See http://www.bootcamp.navy.mil/fam_guide.asp.
Your SR will place up to 4 names on the Access List and all you will need is appropriate current ID in order to see her PIR. See http://www.bootcamp.navy.mil/fam_guide.asp and The Form Letter.
Yes, future Sailors must spend the night before shipping to the RTC in a hotel.
Some recruiters feel that their responsibility ends when the recruit ships to the RTC, which is sometimes a good thing since some recruiters do not keep up with the changes at the RTC and give out wrong information. From now on, it is your SR and later Sailor who will give you information and will provide you with contact info for each command, beginning with the RTC. There are many of us on here who can provide current information as well.

I have a question re: Recruiter as well. My daughters PO was to file her transcripts and failed to do so. He promised to get them there the day she left May 28th. I followed up today and he said he's been on leave and just picked up transcripts and would mail them. I texted him to please let me know once they are made but that my daughter said they needed to be faxed. Any ideas what protocol is?

Transcripts sent to MEPS or the RTC typically are faxed. If the recruiter mails them, then it may affect her pay if that is the reason they are needed, but she will receive the appropriate pay in back pay in future pay periods once the transcripts are received.
