While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

December 2013 Adoption...VAQ-130 "Zappers"
We have a mission to "ZAP" some new energy into the "ZAPPERS"!
This group of sailors is in need of some serious tender loving care that only we could provide! They are half way through a ten month deployment.
The "Zappers" are an airborne electronic attack squadron who fly and maintain the EA-18G Growlers, and are responsible for providing support for Navy, Marine, Army, Air Force and Coalition Forces. This is one busy group and they are far from home.
The Zappers are based out of Whidbey Island, Washington and they are currently deployed with CVN75, Harry S. Truman, a Norfolk, Virginia based aircraft carrier, currently under the command of 5th Fleet. We all know where 5th Fleet is so we know their living conditions.
There are many sailors in this group who don't receive any packages, cards or letters from home. Some sailors have resorted to, "ordering stuff online or sending each other stuff in effort to keep the morale up".
As we prepare for the holiday season decorating, writing cards, baking cookies, let's BAKE A BATCH FOR THE ZAPPERS!
They would love to have a touch of home. Homemade cookies, a hand written letter, a child's drawing...all of these will mean so much to this group. The carrier isn't their real home and at times they feel like house guests who have overstayed their visit. Let's make them feel welcomed and loved!
Here are the details;
Total sailors: 146, which is comprised of 125 males and 21 females.
Top Requested Items;
Food, (especially homemade treats, jerky and sunflower seeds)
Feminine Hygiene Products (21 females)
Pictures & Letters
Coffee and Creamer (I will ask if they have access to a coffee maker or if they are requesting single serve packets)
Deodorant, Lotion, Wipes, Tide Pods
They access to a fridge and microwave but no freezer. (so freezer pops are out)
They also have access to a DVD and CD player.
Pillowcases are a GO for the Zappers!
Let's make this adoption a wonderful way to transition to the new year

REMINDERS!
The packages will be shipped to a toast warm, quite sandy place.
Pack all of the sundry items (soaps, deodorant, shampoo, etc) in a separate box from the food. In the heat, the food will take on the taste of the soaps. Yuk! Also, if you are sending liquid items, please put them in a zip lock bag with a sturdy seal. If the shampoo container breaks it will be quite the mess. The zip lock bag will catch the mess.
Put cards and letters in a zip lock bag as well and seal it tight. The package will travel to the other side of the world and may spend some time sitting in a cargo net in the rain or being splashed by the surf.
Don't use packing peanuts, bubble wrap or other packing materials, use hard candy instead. Minimize garbage. Remove as many outer layers of packaging as possible.
Once you have packed you box, sealed all the edges with packing tape, put a tape girdle on your package and a "Molly's" sticker...ask yourself this question...if I threw this package down two flights of stairs, would it make it?
If your answer is yes, then you are all set to send your package to an aircraft carrier! Happy packing!

I am working with one of my kiddos schools for donations. Their student council is going to do a "goodie" drive next week and get donations. I am meeting with the teacher who heads up the student council tomorrow and thought if you had that information that I could forward to them too. Thanks, Missi

No news yet. From watching the news it looks as if things have been a bit dicey out there lately. I will give it a few days then send another email.
When my son was on a carrier "out there" they had periods of 100% complete communication shut down that lasted several days at a time. Hopefully I will hear something soon!

No problem Laura - I will tell them to get other items on the list and then when you hear more - let us know. I understand completely! They are going to get the younger kiddos (kindies and 1st graders) to make some cards next week too!

Laura… Yesterday I picked up 5 cases of girls scout cookies. There are 10 boxes to a case… so I'll be mailing 50 boxes to some well deserving men and women.
Allison (from the Girl Scout COuncil) here in Bridgeport, CT wants to make some cookies with her friends to send. She just asked that I let her know the ship date so she can make them close to that date. Just thought that was so sweet of her.

Count us in on this one!!!! I can's even imagine what it would be like to have to send stuff to each other because your not getting something from home. I will start getting things together and get with some of the group members that are local to me and get this group some mom love.

Thank you all for the cookie shipments! Ship dates have been posted.
The target dates are December 20th and 21st, or as close to that as possible.
They are going to get some well deserved momma loving! I can't even imagine what it feels like to be on a huge carrier and not feel a part of it. Our treats will certainly help!
