For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

December 2013 Adoption...VAQ-130 "Zappers"
We have a mission to "ZAP" some new energy into the "ZAPPERS"!
This group of sailors is in need of some serious tender loving care that only we could provide! They are half way through a ten month deployment.
The "Zappers" are an airborne electronic attack squadron who fly and maintain the EA-18G Growlers, and are responsible for providing support for Navy, Marine, Army, Air Force and Coalition Forces. This is one busy group and they are far from home.
The Zappers are based out of Whidbey Island, Washington and they are currently deployed with CVN75, Harry S. Truman, a Norfolk, Virginia based aircraft carrier, currently under the command of 5th Fleet. We all know where 5th Fleet is so we know their living conditions.
There are many sailors in this group who don't receive any packages, cards or letters from home. Some sailors have resorted to, "ordering stuff online or sending each other stuff in effort to keep the morale up".
As we prepare for the holiday season decorating, writing cards, baking cookies, let's BAKE A BATCH FOR THE ZAPPERS!
They would love to have a touch of home. Homemade cookies, a hand written letter, a child's drawing...all of these will mean so much to this group. The carrier isn't their real home and at times they feel like house guests who have overstayed their visit. Let's make them feel welcomed and loved!
Here are the details;
Total sailors: 146, which is comprised of 125 males and 21 females.
Top Requested Items;
Food, (especially homemade treats, jerky and sunflower seeds)
Feminine Hygiene Products (21 females)
Pictures & Letters
Coffee and Creamer (I will ask if they have access to a coffee maker or if they are requesting single serve packets)
Deodorant, Lotion, Wipes, Tide Pods
They access to a fridge and microwave but no freezer. (so freezer pops are out)
They also have access to a DVD and CD player.
Pillowcases are a GO for the Zappers!
Let's make this adoption a wonderful way to transition to the new year

I mailed 1 box with pillowcases and I added room fresheners and some eye glass wipes to fill that box. I sent a box with microwave meals, granola bars, sunflower seeds and some nuts. I ordered two containers of 77 Tide Pods from amazon. (using smile.amazon.com for MAS) and had them shipped directly to them. I assume they will be in 1 box.
My daughters friend who sent her first boxes last month was sending at least three the last I talked to her. She is 28, married and isn't able to have kids and is about 15 hours away from all of her family. She absolutely loves to send boxes now!

I heard from our point of contact for the Zappers. As you can imagine things have been very busy for them. I told her that we started shipping packages to her unit and she said that she was,
"more than excited to receive everything. I will be sure to send pictures. thanks in advance =) "

I got my two boxes shipped out! One with feminine supplies - sanitary pads, emery boards, nail clippers and bobby pins. The other had canned fruit, trail mix, mixed nuts, microwave popcorn, two activity books and colored gel pens.
The lady at the post office made sure I left with more boxes, shipping labels and customs forms just in case my online order of supplies did not arrive in time for the next shipment :)

Hi Everyone, hope all is well. Sorry haven't been on in a while but things have been crazy with my mom leaving the hospital and going to rehab, and with the holidays.
Laura I wasn't able to get to a computer to let you know in time but I was able to send out two boxes on the 21st, one with cookies and the cards and letters from my sons school, and the other with all misc. stuff, like puzzle books, pens, playing cards, games etc. I hope I didn't mess up your count by not letting you know in time.
Thank you again, and am looking forward to January's adoption :D

The "Zappers" were the final adoption for 2013 and I was honored to be the "mom of the month" to close out the year.
Let me say, "Thank You" to all of the generous people who shipped packages this month and also a big "Thank You" to those who may not have been able to ship a package but who sent their prayers and best wishes for this group.
All of the good thoughts and prayers worked! It is unbelievable! Our packages were delivered in record time.
They arrived today, New Years Eve! What a fantastic way to start off their New Year's Eve celebrations and 2014.
I will post the emails I received. You all made this group of sailors very, very happy. Again, thank you!
On to 2014 and the January adoption!
