<p>My son is joining as an E3 due to his US Naval Sea Cadet service. He reached PO2 but, I think you only needed to become an E3 in the Sea Cadets. The recruiter seemed to think most recruits joined as E1.</p>

<p>Mostly to reassure parents whose sailors are E-1s who have a two-year wait to even get to take that E-4 exam, who feel like every sailor around their kid is already an E-2 and E-3 and their kid is starting behind, in a hole - and feeling very much like their kid is the only one being "held back."</p>
<p>I'm guessing 70 percent of new sailors leave bootcamp an E-1, 20 percent an E-2 and 10 percent an E-3. But that's just my own gut estimate. I'd like to have some real numbers to back it…</p>
