My son arrived at GL on March 28th and I got the call today that he has been separated. He said that everything was going great at BC. He told me that he was loving it...a little homesick...but loving it. He even said that everything the RDC's said and did was making total sense and he "got it." All of the early tasks he was excelling at and then the foot pain started.
He said at first, he tried to ignore it and push through. Then it became too much. If he was wearing athletic shoes it was bearable but as soon as the boots went on, it was hard for him to even walk. He decided to mention it because it was bothering him that bad. He was sent to medical for xrays and scans of some sort. He was diagnosed with tendonitis in his foot that will require surgery to fix. Something about a tendon/ligament being too short??
He seemed to be in ok but disappointed spirits today. He spend 8 months in DEP looking forward to this and for good reason as I found out this morning. The Navy was the perfect fit for him, just not his foot I guess :-(
I am still super proud of him and am sad for him that this didn't work out. To rub salt in the wound...I received his letter a few hours after this mornings phone call with all of his now not going to happen PIR info. It's tough seeing what would have been his ship and div numbers as well as his grad date.
