My husband is planning on going to visit our son tomorrow but was told by a family friend who has been to the base before that they  HAD to not only have the registration sticker on the windshield but alo the paper receipt. Haven't found that anywhere on here  where it says that. Any help? He was hoping to drive his mon's car as it does better on gas but she doesn't have that receipt...just the sticker

Hello, I am looking for anyone who has a sailor that just got to SA, Texas for MA school 5/07/11. My daughter just arrived there for MA A school on 5/07/11 and started classes today with a graduation date of approx. 6/24/11. Is there anyone out there with the same? I would like to converse with you while they are in A school.

Thank You,

Cheryl

jc2mnm: My Sailor began on May 7th as well and has a graduation on June 24th
GeorgiaNavyMom:  Is your sailor a male or female? What division were they in @ Great Lakes? Mine was in Div 925!
my daughter called the other night & said now her graduation is June 30th & she will fly out 7/1/11. Is this normal to graduate on a Thursday? She is waiting to hear is she qualifies for a position guarding nuclear weapons either in WA or GA. SHe is trying to decide which place to choose. I told her go where your heart leads you!! Anyone else out there with a sailor interested in same job/position?

jc2mnm - It may be due to the upcoming July 4th holiday.  The base is most likely shutting down (Though some still have to remain behind for guard duty - usually the newbies coming in).  If there is a holiday, a Thursday graduation is a "normal" alternate day.

All of that just to say, yes it is a normal thing!   lol

Georgia is good, but will be HOT during the summer!  If I ever remember to get them uploaded, I have a few photos of Kings Bay Sub Base.  Been there a few times!   (And the photos are at one of the gates which has public access, so the photos are "safe" to post).

Wow - haven't been on for a little while - sorry for missing some of the questions (Not that I have all of the answers!)  ;)

bn4givn - I hope you found out the info you needed for your husband.  I know we had to take in our registration, proof of insurance and of course our id's.  Usually your tag receipt will work for the registration - just in case anyone else has the same question.

For those who are posing questions about graduation dates and whose sailor is where - you may want to go out to the main page to post those questions ... I'd hate for you to not get any responses!  Not everyone will check in here, but even the lurkers will read the main page!   Well, I would think, anyway!

GeorgiaNavyMom - what part of Georgia?  I'm in the (west) Metro-Atlanta area ...

Has anyone stayed in the Gateway Inn on base? My son checked the rates and they are very low but I don't have any idea of what it is like.
Mine graduates June 17th...

bn4givn - I met a couple of parents who stayed at the Gateway Inn, during graduation and they had no complaints - other than the sign on the building was very hard to see!  If it's anything like the Navy Lodge, it should be basic, but comfortable - and also will possibly have a small kitchen (I know the NL does, not sure about the Gateway).  Your sailor will have to make the reservations, as well as be present (To show their military id) when you check in.

I also read on here - somewhere - a couple of horror stories about families getting "bumped out" due to officers coming in, but if you've confirmed your reservations with a credit card, you should be safe (But not gonna promise that one!).  Make them ASAP, too, because the rooms will fill up fast!

Hello Ladies! I have not been on here in a VERY long time. If anyone needs info regarding hotels in the area and things to do while here just shoot me an e-mail. I live in San Antonio. I have been known to go and pick up sailors from the base and take them to the airport or vice versa! When I can, I am happy to do it. My son is currently deployed for his 3rd time. His 4 years is just about up and he will be getting discharged. I am sad but I support him in whatever he decides to do. Please don't hesitate to contact me if you want!! Debbie Hernandez - trudeux@yahoo.com

I have a question the 4th of July is coming up and I believe they will get liberty. Can I go and visit with him? Can they leave the base?
