I have seen -50 up here in Dec..and I have also seen up to 10 foot snow drifts... and everywhere in between!
Something to keep in mind the bases do NOT shut down! Even if the planes can't get in PIR will go on! So recommend you plan to be up here early as the airports do shut down!
All the farmers are saying this is going to be a bad winter!
If you do end up not being able to drive, you can take the tram or the taxi from the airport. But like they said, the airports do shut down. They did for 2 days while I was up there. It was horrible. So you might also want to consider buying your tickets closer to the PIR date, to see if you want to pick a different airport.
Also, waiting to buy the tickets is a good idea due to recruits, who on occasion, get set back on their PIR dates. (Sickness, injury, not passing a test, etc).
I am definitely waiting till the last minute to purchase my ticket!!! Thanks to all the veteran moms. I am truely obsessed with this website. It's really the only thing holding me together right now!!!
I am also anxious about the weather!!! I'll be flying into Milwaukee Airport (I understand the fairs and rentals are less expensive there vs O'Hare). Having lived in North Carolina since '88, I'm not experienced in driving in snow, so I'm seriously considering a taxi or tram, but, I don't know where to start! I have yet to receive the letter telling me my son's division and grad date, but he shipped out 10/26 so it will be in December.
Wonder if there are any other single moms flying out that might be needing to cut costs and might have suggestions?
Sorry to ramble and not make alot of sense; I won't be 'right' until I hear from my son.
