Stay strong. Keep thinking about what your son wants. Stay focus on his goals. In the end, if he is happy then you are happy. Right now all your feelings are raw and they hurt but stay in the moment and practice Mindfulness. It should help. Lots of breathing and staying centered. My son left today. It’s hard but I know it’s right.

Hi jcmom,
Sorry to hear about your dad. Just got the box 10 minutes ago. It has been rough but I think it will be better now. I was sure I was going to cry when I got the box but I am ok. My son is a master at Arms so his A school will be very close to where we live. Weekend visits are very possible. I had my dad keep his car at his place, more room and I'm less likely to turn into mommy fountain again. My son boxed all his stuff up before he left. He knew I would not be able to handle that at…

Michelle. My son shipped out on 9/10 as well. He flew out of Atlanta with 10 others. I literally left MEPS with my other son, husband and his girlfriend and was dropped off at the airport immediately afterwards and caught a plane to go to New Orleans for my dads funeral. To say the least I am actually glad that I had that distraction of his funeral the first few days. It helped. We received his box of stuff EOD this past Friday. To say the least I am actually glad that I had that distraction of his funeral the first few days. It helped. We received his box of stuff EOD this past Friday. That brought tears to my eyes when we finally opened it. I have washed everything and put it up in his room. I have gone in his room and was quite surprised of how clean he left it. I guess he wanted to impress me. Seeing his car daily kills me. I am hoping we can take it to A school for him since it is only 6 hours away. Hang in there and if you need someone to talk to message me. My heart dropped last Thursday when I received a call from Wakkegun, IL and it was him. He needed me to overnight his license to him since the original finally showed up in the mail on Monday and he knew it but there was nothing he could do since he was shipping out. What is your sons job?

Tomorrow is going to be a bad day. I went to the store today and before I realized it I had picked up all of the stuff for spaghetti and movie night. (fridays) I have done this every week for almost his whole life. I had to turn around and put it all back. I just couldn't face the thought of fixing my son's favorite meal and double butter popcorn and he not be there.

So very normal feelings mama. My son (and only child) and I shared the same sense of humor and I loved our relationship so much. I felt such a loss when he shipped out. The relationship shifts and changes but the love between the two of you will remain the same. Allow the grief to be there, talk it out and in a few weeks you will see a young man who is proud of himself. It’s very hard at first when they leave but it does get better.

If she were in charge, it would have been difficult for her to split her attention. Hard to be someone's baby and a leader simultaneously. Better for her that you weren't there, but not great for you!

So were we! They got up at 3:30 on August 29th and were at MEPS by 5:30. We didn't get there until 8:30. Watched the final initiation into the Navy. They ate Quiznos then they were on their way. I didn't realize we parked in a Two hour lot at MEPS. We were there almost 4 hours. The man said he wouldn't have our car towed because he knew how hard this day was! Boy, was he ever right.

We got to stay at the same hotel too. It was a 4 hour drive up so we only had 2 hours before curfew. We ate dinner with him and the guy in charge let us come down and eat breakfast with him in the morning because we were the only family there. We were very lucky to get so much goodbye time.
