OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Please note! Changes to this guide happened in October 2017. Tickets are now issued for all guests, and all guests must have a ticket to enter base. A separate parking pass is no longer needed to drive on to base for parking.

HOLIDAY LEAVE AFTER PIR GRADUATION
I know we are all overjoyed about our sailors coming home after PIR so let's get all of our questions answered here.
Ma'am,
Recruits graduating Dec. 17 & 22 will be granted leave and will be able to travel home. Those graduating Dec. 17 will have their leave expire on Dec. 28. Recruits graduating Dec. 22 will be granted leave that will expire Jan. 2. Recruits are responsible for paying their own way from RTC to their home and then pay for their way from home to their next command for A School. Once they are at their next command, they may request to be reimbursed for part of the travel costs.

Traveling home the Sailors will be required to wear their uniforms because they have not phased in at A School. A letter will be given letting them know what is allowed and not allowed while on Leave. They cannot drive a car or consume alcoholic beverages while on Leave.
Our Sailors will not be allowed to bring their cars to A School.

You son will need to have a copy of his travel arrangements from BC to home and then also a copy of his itinerary from home to his A school. If he is flying, he will need the itineraries.
My son gave me an email to send it to them. But, I am also including copies of it in all of the letters that I send him just in case.

When/how did you get a Christmas leave form? And is it only necessary to have one if you're recruit is flying home after PIR? I talked to my son last night & he said he didn't need anything to "prove" he was going home w/ us as we are driving home.

I received the form in the mail from my son. It was a copy of the form that he filled out in BC.
Not so cure about proving if they are driving, anymore When I called PAO last week, they told me they needed a written statement saying that they were driving too. But on this form that I received today, they can circle, fly or drive, so maybe that's all they need for driving.

You could always mail your recruits copies of the mapquest directions from BC to home and then from home to A school. I guess it wouldn't hurt, just in case.

On A's Christmas Leave form, it says that Leave Dates for Christmas are from Friday, Dec. 17, 12:00 until Tuesday, December 28 at 07:00. They are told to purchase a return ticket to A school, to report on time by Monday, December. 27.

Will I get a letter like that? I don't know whether to buy airline tickets or not. We have not heard anything from our son for quite awhile.

I would write, in your next letter, and ask him if he wants to come home for Christmas. Has he told you what he wants to do yet? Some recruits have decided that they do not want to use up their leave right now.
Hopefully, you will hear something from him soon. I think they can write more often now and it seems they are getting more frequent phone calls.

He says he wants to come home for Christmas. Will he be able to make arrangements, or should we? How can we find out specifics about dates? I so wish he would call or write. He lost his phone card on arrival to bc. We sent him another one. I am just not sure he even got it. We have been writing him about 3 times a week. Wish we would hear back from him.

Adding this information for the PIR discussion board here so it doesn't get lost: I just spoke with SATO at Great Lakes; I learned that the 12/17 SR's will be given their official orders for A school on 12/14. Ground transportation from the airport - I was told to contact the Quarter Deck at your SR's A school base - very possibly, there is a Duty Driver available to transport your Sailor from the airport to their base. SATO also told me the likely reimbursement amount will be $180.00 for air travel. That is the amount it would cost for them to fly from Chicago to their destination.
