How many of you are already planning for next year's PIRs?

My son won't be going to GL until late April (assuming they don't come up with an offer to leave sooner that my son can't resist), probably graduating in late June or early July. Since we don't have much money right now we're going to start buying Amtrak tickets (from Oregon to Chicago) for the trip, one by one, as we have extra money. We figure that we can buy at least one or two tickets, and, best case scenario, by the time it's actually time to go we'll have tickets for everyone. And since it's Amtrak we can change dates on our tickets without a fee.

Is anyone else making advance plans for a PIR that is still far in the future?

Good Plan,
If you are a AAA member, they give 10% discount on the Amtrak fares. I don't think it applies to sleeper berths though. Worth checking out. Amtrak is a wonderful way to travel.

Yes, and they also have a 10% military discount. That's how my son plans to travel when time allows.

Amtrak is so much FUN. We use it regularly, our transportation is also part of our vacation. Beautiful scenery you can never see from a car, plenty of room to get up and move around, evening movies, 4-star meals and no airport security hassle.
I'm so happy to find other Amtrak travelers! I just love Amtrak!!! Not only do you avoid the airport security hassles, but the station I use has FREE parking and its about 500 ft from the station. I travel by train whenever possible.
My son is leaving for BC on 11/16. I'm new here so I need to learn the lingo. I take it that PIR ( Pass in Review) is BC graduation? I think Evan's will be about mid January so we need to start making plans to fly to GL.
