Curios question, and am probably getting ahead of the game here.  My son is at BC right now and after graduation will be headed to his A school training (sorry about the lingo, still learning) He will be in the SW training division. Do they use or need Laptops in their schooling?  Thinking about getting one for him.   Might there be other things that are a must have at arrival?

Hi Skye!  Welcome to the hive!  Need is such a curious word!!  The Navy will supply everything they NEED. Tools, gloves, training aids, computers.... If it is NEEDED then the Navy will provide it.  HOWEVER, Having a laptop or a computer of some type is super helpful for your bee to communicate home, watch movies, play games..... Sadly though they are also easily stolen.  They cannot use a personal computer to do any of their testing since that is classified material.  It is a nice to have but not a Must have.  This is true of all rates.  Most of them want Civies and mine found his body had changed so much that most of the items he "saved" for me to send no longer fit him. (Thinner waist, broader shoulders)  He ended up buying new clothes.  We got him a nice watch since he already had a laptop.  He later got a desktop since it is harder to steal, but that was his choice and his $$.

You are doing fine with the lingo.

Thank you so much for this info, very helpful and much appreciated. I am surprised the theft thing is an issue.  I would assume they would have a way to lock up belongings, but what do I know.  Good to know about the civies, I was just about to go through his clothes and was wondering what to do with them all.  I will save them ...He is was a boxer and about as fit as one could be...he loses any more weight I will worry!  Again thank you for the info!
